Hello all,

Two hours of waiting, a lot of publicity, and 18 sec cyclists ...
That's the "Tour de France circus" here in Belgium :-)
An "E-10" impression - with the yellow tricot - on Belgium Digital ...

Hi Jaja,

All I see are two bicycles and it doesn't look like much of a race.
Over here in Austin, Texas we are keeping our fingers crossed for Lance.

Hello Ron,

That's how the passage here in Hasselt was ...
A lot of publicity, and a closed group of cyclists "walking" trough our town.
Not much of a race at that time ... :-(
That's why I named it "Tour de France circus" ...

Nice work, Jaja!

I've been watching the tour on TV and was wondering if you'd be out photographing it if it came close to where you are. Knew it was in Belguim yesterday (July 9).

Hello TomJ,

Thanks.

The album is of todays race (July 10th). They passed my home and shooting contitions weren't ideal ... I was stucked at home and couldn't go out for a better place ... (all roads were blocked).

Jaja,

Wow! You don't waste any time getting images for us all to see!

Once again, great work! I'll be looking to see if any of the scenes from today's (July 10) television coverage look like your images.

Best wishes,

TomJ

Hello Jaja - Thanks for the photos. I hear that Belgium rider Wauters won the stage today. With this and Justin Henin at Wimbledon, Belgium has had quite a week in sports. Congrats!!

Hello Davo,

We're always a day ahead ... :-)

It's now July 11th over here - 2:45am, so Wauters won the day before yesterday ... in our timezone (GMT +1).
It's complicated when speaking about time and date via the internet :-)))
But indeed, we had a "sports" week.

And now, Belgium has become "chairman of the European Commission" for the next six months ...
IS Belgium becomming famous?

On the news today, I heard we have the 5th place worldwide regarding "standards of living".

Wow ..., a small country can be "big" for certain things - especially for Olympus prices (twice as high as in the US :-)))

Jaja,

I don't have much time these days to get on line. Seems like every time I miss a few days all heck breaks loose. ;-)

Anyway, I enjoyed your Tour album (as usual with your images). I am glad that you got a shot of the Yellow Jersey. Too bad he wasn't on your side of the road. You also captured the US Pro Road Champion, Fred Rodriguez.

It seems that you didn't try "squeezing off" four frames once you spotted Marc Wauters. Any particular reason?

Thanks.

Hello Cleave,

  • Well this forum is "alive" :-)))
Normally, I take a deep breath, count to 10 and forget about it, but in this case ... :-)

In the future, I will take a deep breath again, count and not waste any energy on such matters - it's useless ...

  • Thanks. I was glad I could shoot at least "some" cyclists. Their passage took about 15 seconds and then it was over. There was a lot more publicity in advance. That why I called it "the circus" :-)))

  • Well, I didn't focus especially on Marc Wauters since they were passing so fast that I wouldn't have had any shot left when the E-10 was emptying it's buffer, writing to the CF-card.
That's one of the few "complaints" I have towards the E-10 : it's memory buffer should be a larger - or be used more "economicly" ...

I do not know, look at them all and said to myself "They are o.k.".

Then I said to myself,

"Hell this Jaja, who did the Wedding Series, Antwerp Impressions
and the environment of the river Mass"

All those pictures wow me. Wow as in studying your pictures and
find myself saying "Wow!"

I don't know, maybe there is now a level of what to except from Jaja.

Technically outstanding pictures but no wow for me like the Wedding series

or the rest. But I will always look, there is something to learn from your pictures.

Sorry for giving an honest opinion that I know others would object to.

Hello William,

Of course you are right. This "circus" limited the possibilities of a photographer tremendously. No way of getting closer, no way of another shooting position, and it all went so fast.

The publicity "circus" flew by with speeds of 80 km/hour and the bikers themself did 50 km/hour. So not that much possibilities for me :-(
That's not an excuse, it's just a fact ... :-)

I do like to have some time to "prepare" my shots and in this case, that was nearly impossible.

And I certainly do appreciate your honnest opinion. It's one of the best ways for me to learn something - so it's very valuable to me.

It's the same feeling as I had when the "Tour de France" has passed by: was that all? :-)))
Thanks for your honnest opinion.

Hi Jaja,

You know, you are right about the "time to prepare". All the good pix I have taken were planned, all the rest (of mine) are snapshots... OK, not great. The hardest thing for me is to think while looking through the e10.

It must be really frustrating for you, knowing how the pix could be, to just "snap" as they fly by at 50kM/h!

Jaja,

Here in the US, I think we need to get an E-10 mobile and tour cities where other E-10 owners reside.

Hello Bill,

Most of the time, I know what I'm gonna shoot, but "Le Tour" .... :-)
I should have investigated more carefully in advance.

On the other hand, the album is just an impression of the circus that "Le Tour" is, no more, no less.

It was hard enough to get some decent photos without heads and hands of spectators :-)))

And that's indeed very frustrating, knowing that one can't approach the road any nearer.
Thanks for the "moral" support :-)))
