I am looking at getting a 350D and want to do it sooner than later. However, I can't find anywhere around me that has one on display to look at before I purchase it online. Would it be stupid to buy it without looking at one first? I want to take it with me on a trip the second week of April and I want to order it and get familiar with using the camera before I go on the trip. The biggest things that concerns me are the size and the size of the viewfinder. I went to Bestbuy yesterday and now don't think size of the camera will be a problem as I looked at several other smaller cameras and didn't find them to be uncomfortable to use. The only other thing is the small viewfinder. Has anyone found this to be a big problem?

You need it in three weeks ? then wait, most retailer will have the 350D in store next week. Official release date is march 20th.

Me, I want to try it before I buy it.

I would at least pick a 350 up at a local store before buying. The grip really is small and might bother some people depending on how you hold the camera. The viewfinder didn't bother me.

I tried at a local shop before ordering online (my local shop didn't have anything other than a single demo camera).

i saw one at best buy yesterday in Illinois. It is small!! I own a 20D, though, so I am used to that. It feels almost like a fuji finepix in size.

Finally was able to look at one today. I was impressed with the camera itself. Size is perfect in my opinion for what the camera is. Call me crazy, but it is more comfortable for me than the 300d, this could be from being used to using small point and shoot cameras though. I could not believe how light it was, almost too light in my opinion. My only concern would be when you put a large zoom lens on how it feels, I only tested it with the kit lens at Bestbuy. I would have bought it at BB today (999 for the kit), but they only had the silver model so it looks like I will have to look into ordering it online

The local shop was kind enough to let You use their
one and only camera for you to demo?

I just got back from Best Buy. I went there with all intentions of bringing home an XT. Did not like it at all. Will keep the 300D till I can afford a 20D.I belive it really is a love/hate thing with the XT.

If you already own (and I assume like) the 300D, what is there to possibly dislike about the 350XT?

Isn't the 350XT simply a 300D with more, better, faster and all the goofy crippled functions now enabled ?

I understand the whole MkII vs. 20D vs. 350XT thingie but how can any 300D user NOT like the 350XT ?

See this thread. The bottom line is the 350D works with large lenses just fine as long as one holds the camera properly.

I have upgraded from 300D to 350XT and love nearly all the changes.

In particular, I love the faster startup, the faster write to CF, the faster AF and reduced noise.

However, the size and physical feel are quite different, which I prefer, but I can fully understand that not everyone will.

Also, ISO selection is, in my view, a step backward.

YMMV!

At my Best Buy, they dont have it on the floor for some reason. ASK THEM if they have it in stock.... Thats what I did.
