The 7D is 10% off at Dell, use this coupon for an additional $65 off to get price to $1374. Free shipping and no sales tax in most states.

?PCSRBSQ$L34L8

15% off the 5600 Flash and the Vertical Grip as well.

For those of you on the fence, this is a great deal, camera looks to be in stock, but the coupon expires today. Usually good until about 6:00am EST.

....at that price (effectively $1100 or so) at the beginning, I would have been a 7D owner at the time. Now, I'm far from sure I want to stay with KM - not only because of price, but also because I'm really worried about the long-term health of the company, and about what seems to be KM's lack of plans for a higher mpx camera in future months or years. I'm still waffling, but the waffles are getting longer on the Canon side. I don't like that, because in general I like to support underdogs, and KM sure is one of those, in the digicam race. - Bill

but I think K-M has committed its full efforts, diverted from film cameras, to DSLR. A K-M official made it known last summer that a full line of DSLR was planned just like it had with film. It is not a matter of if, but of when.

Of course, that is of little help to those of us who wished we had the camera (9D, 5D) right now.

No question about it--Canon is the leader right now. Everyone else is just followers, except maybe Olympus. Canon is the company that most controls its own destiny. But don't sell Konica-Minolta short just yet.

The price has been cut roughly 30% in less than 4 months. How do you think those of who paid more than $1600 feel now?

How about a retroactive $400 rebate to restore our confidence in KM! ;-)

That is the price of early adoption. (In addition to debugging the camera). I have no regrets about an early purchase. I think I've probably saved the difference in film and processing costs and had a blast in the meantime. I still am amazed how much more I enjoy digital photography than film. The freedom to take as many pictures as you want and the immediate feedback really make the difference.

Hi Vance - Thanks for posting this. I am still waffling, as you may or may not have seen from other posts. I keep wanting an excuse to stay with KM, so any encouragement is welcome. Sometime during the next few months I will make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Rochester NY, the closest city with a store which stocks the Canons. I'll hope to find a KM 7D there also, and compare sizes, weights, and ergonomics for myself. Canon is very tempting right now.

The various QC issues don't bother me as much, because I know Canon has its fair share of them and I'm resigned to the likelihood that any camera I buy may have to be sent in for adjustment.

Optically (and financially!!) I know that either KM or Canon would be a gigantic step upward; as a habitual "image cropper" I'd love to stay with 8 megapixels, and I've wondered if the extra speed and faster focus of one of the Canons would make any difference for me. - Bill

Hi,

This is just an up-date on Dell and the original $150.00 rebate. I didn't want to fuss with being kicked from on Dell person to another so when I got my rebate check I sent it in with my monthly statement and they deducted $150 off my bill. I had originally paid the $1599 minus 15% minus shipping. When you deduct the $150 rebate I paid $1209.00.

I had that price in mind months before the camera was released and a price mentioned. Needless to say I was very satisfied.
Regards,
Ron

Hi Ron, so what you are saying is that you got a $150 credit on your account with a lens check without ordering a lens ---? Hmmm! That would mean you turned your lens check into a refund or the other misnomer, a rebate, by applying it to whatever else you bought from Dell.

Bill,

All you are going to find in Rochester shops is Canon and Nikon. I talked with Rowe and Hahn and there is no demand for the 7D locally they say so they won't be stocking it. Continental Camera in Depew/Buffalo area might have it instock as well as Delaware Camera in Buffalo, but definately call ahead.

BTW my first 20D couldn't focus on anything properly. Returned it and the second one is fine. Had to send my new 70-200/4 L in to Canon for a recal. KM ain't the only one with issues.

Lock me up and toss me the key....I'll never figure it out anyway.

The 20D is a fine camera. I haven't had any issues with it after a few initial lock ups only after changing lenses and quickly resolved by removing and reinserting the battery.

The 8 MP is nice. Not a big deal really but it is nice.

The Canon AF speed is faster but not

The large LCD of the 7D is nice

AntiShake works well when handholding in low light

20D has better high iso performance than 7D but 7D is quite good

It really comes down to your own likes, needs, and preferences

Right now, I do trust the 20D overall slightly more but my confidence in the 7D is growing.

Hi,

That is correct. On a whim I sent the rebate check in with the monthly statement and put my account # on the check and when I checked my account online there was a $150 dreduction to my account balance. I had no interest in buying the lenses offered by Dell so I thought I would try it. It has been 3 weeks since I did this and my new bill just came in with the new balance showing my last payment of $150.00.

I had heard other stories that Dell didn't honor the checks for the lenses and as I said I had no interest in the lenses offered.

That's my story. I'm sure the way Dell works there are different twists to others attemtps to redeem the rebate check.

Ron

IHi again,

I didn't apply the rebate check to any purchases other than my account balance as a monthy payment.

I am glad it worked for you. Maybe others can do the same since Dell only has had one lens to offer that maybe they don't want to buy. :-)
