Just a thought,

I thought I would not like the smaller size of the XT, and considered the 20d as my option...But I have to say it is not a problem at all for me!

By the way...I take a lot of portrait shots of my girls, and I have to say the Rebel XT with the 50 1.4 just looks like they were made for each other.

went to a local store and found the black one
does not look very elegant besides its smaller
size.

It appears like it is made of cheap rubber. I really do
not like the way it looks. The wheel on top seems to
be quite old-styled too. Hmmm, I am still thinking.

The hand grip is too small too. Ok, when you are not
shooting, you often hold the camera with one hand,
right? If a f2.8 zoom lens (medium size) is attached to
the camera, can you still do that?

I just received my new black XT kit. It is everything I expected it would be. I love the black, the texture of the space-age polycarbonate (not rubber), the grip (my fingers all fit on the right grip, but I've already learned to hold the mass of the camera/lens with my left hand, leaving my right hand free to make adjustments and press the shutter button.

Of course, the learning curve will be steep since I'm coming from a 4 MP P&S (Minolta Z3), but I am the classic demographic that Canon was apparently aiming at when they designed this update to the original DR. I value the size and the total package.

I went from the 300D to 350 but worried because of all negativity in this forum, the store said I could use it and if I didn't like it I can return it for a 20D.

I am not returning it. I love tihis camera. I love its isize, weight, and speed but specially the picture quality.

It seems to me that opinions are very positive from those who have actually bought the XT. I also bought one and have found it to be a fantastic DSLR. Picture quality is outstanding IMO.

I agree, the picture quality is fantastic (of course, so was the rebels). I think the Ettl II is a great improvement over Ettl. Overall the camera feels much faster then the old Rebel!

I have found myself accidentely snapping off 2 or 3 shots in a row when I only meant to take one shot.

As for the finish....I like the rougher feeling, but I also agree it seems to catch lint, dirt, and dust because of it.

As for the size, I do have the 70-200 f4, and although it's not as heavy as the f2.8, it does seem like the camera is an attachment to the lens and not the other way around!

Overall I love it, now if I could just find something interesting to shoot...

I was heavily leaning toward a 20D, however I bought a Rebel XT. I'm tall and have hands that can just palm a basketball. In that context, the XT feels a little small. I also bought the battery grip. The battery grip really makes a difference if you feel the camera is a little small.

You would be daft to start waving a camera about with a fairly heavy zoom attatched without supporting the joint, regardless of the camera.

Of course, the pro cameras will stand up to this lots better, but it is not a good idea anyway - it is just that PJ's etc sometimes have to take a chance in the heat of the moment, but for the rest of us it is best to treat things like joints with respect.

To answer what might underlie your question, the 350D is unlikely to stand up to as much abuse as something like the 20D, but neither will enjoy their joints being worked.

I upgraded from a G1 and I have found my black XT is all I expected it to be and more. I have large hands though I'm holding the camera mainly in my left hand as I did on my old Nikkormat FT3 where it was much more than just for support. A light right hand hold is what seems to be the best on the XT. The functions buttons and knobs are all so easy to learn. I'm totally happy with the viewfinder - clear and easy to manually focus through. As for picture quality (using parameter 2) I'm just stunned - clean wonderful and excellent colour.

Oh and even though the XT won't make anyone a great photographer by owning one - it's a good tool to start with.

That rattle sound is most likely your orientation mechanism - it makes that sound and it's normal and fine :-)

Hi to all canon owners,

i am sat here waiting for my battery to charge, for my new 350d. i am 6'3 and have big hands and find the 350d okay to hold, my little finger supports the bottom of the camera, which i do not find a problem and this was the case with a 300d as well. i will buy the the hand grip when jessop get it in, to help beef up the camera.

I paid £650 at jessop (price matched with dabs.com) did not need to prove the price.

I am looking forward to taking some great picture's with this camera.

I have moved up from a olympus E10.

Many thank glen
