Hi guys, i'm from spain and i have been looking to buy a new camera around 6 mpx because my hp 935 has died after taking almost 15.000 photos. ... i'm very unhappy about it but it's time to get another camera.

I've been looking for cameras that uses SD memory cards and lithium pack batteries and i have fixed my find in the Kodak DX7630. Where I live in Valencia (Spain) it's possible to adquire this camera around 275 euros (more or less 300 US$). I've been reading opinions (150 or more) and a lot of reviews (here, at steve's digicams, in other webs like megapixel.net, the imaging resources, etc) I like this camera a lot, it's quite impressive that has a lot of manual adjustments, the most people say that has a long lifetime battery that supports lots of shots, i've seen lots of photos takes with it and they are quite good...

I have been doing comparision between Olimpus C60, Canon S50 (the S70 is 7 mpx, not 6 mpx like the Kodak) and Casio Qr2 (i think it's this camera, maybe this is a wrong name :S ) and i like the quality image from the Kodak, only that the photos look like a bit magenta, but this is possible due to the ambients in the photo is take and is possible to correct with Photoshop, it doesn't matter at all.

The last and most important question for me it's the following. I've read in an opinion (only one man has said that between more than 150 opinions) that a negative thing in this camera is that it doesn't show a battery metter indicator, so u can't know how much time or shots u can already take. I'm very interested in beeing sure about it, because i've read in a different place that the camera really show it but you must press flash button continously (or maybe a combination of buttons) to display in the LCD the remaing battery to shot.

I think it's a very needly thing and I can't buy a camera without this option, because i met people with any Canon cameras without battery metter and it's very annoying the moment u want to take an interesting photo and in this moment appears in the LCD -- LOW BATTERY, THE CAMERA IS CLOSING --

I want to be sure about it, so could anyone explain this feature about this camera, it's really that there isn't a battery life metter??

Thank u guys, i need to buy the camera in less than 5 days so i want to decide the fast I can. Bye, any advice about this and a different camera will be kindly admitted!!

The DX7630 does have a battery level indicator. I cannot locate a way of checking the battery level so assume it will appear on screen when the battery gets down to a certain level. I will say these li-ion batteries have amazing life, I have taken up to 300 shots over a period of 4 days and the battery was still going strong.

I just sent an email to kodak about the indicator, I'm interested myself, will post their reply when it arrives.

When you see a chance you take it!
--I've seen the battery indicator once since we've had the 7630. It gives you ample time to change batteries before the camera shuts off. I wouldn't worry about it though because when the indicator did show I had not charged the cam before leaving home and I was making videos and taking pictures for at least 2 hrs before the warning! Just make sure you buy another battery and travel charger to keep the extra battery charged.

The More You Shoot, The Better You See

Greetings Rob,

Thank you for your recent visit to the Kodak Web site and question about
KODAK EASYSHARE DX7630 Zoom Digital Camera.

Rob, We would like to further assist you in checking the status of the
battery of your KODAK EASYSHARE Digital Zoom Camera.

If the camera will be running out of battery, there will be a battery
icon that will come out in the LCD of the camera to give you a warning
that the camera will be running out of battery or the battery power is
low or almost empty. We suggest that if you are using a rechargeable
battery, recharge the battery and use the camera. Take pictures and
review them. Kindly observe the battery icon that will come out in the
screen of the camera.

We are glad to be of service and are here for you if you need us in the
future. Please reply to us "with history" if this e-mail did not resolve
the issue you wrote to us about.

Regards,

I'd like to add, extra battery packs are cheap. I just ordered a spare 1050 LiIo battery pack for my DX6490, it only cost $30 Canadian. That's very cheap. That way, when you do get the low battery warning light, simply swap them and always keep one charged.

You can get the 1700 from amazon.com for $23.69 and the camera comes with a charger (at least in the US).

I'm gonna reserve today my new DX7630, i hope ti will be a nice camera, the only thing i have reserves about it it's that some reviews say that this camera compress too much images and they can show artifacts...

Ah, one good thing --> A second battery 1700 mAh only costs here in Valencia (Spain) 11,5 euros that would be 15,25 US $$

THAT'S GOOD :D

Well, i'll get the camera tuesday or Wednesday, and i'll take some photos because it's holiday time between thursday and monday and i'll go to snow!!!!

P.D. If any of you have a internet gallery with photos taken with the DX7630, could you post here a link to see them? or maybe could u send me the link to this adress :D

[email protected]

Thank all you guys!!

It will show up when the battery is low... that is after about 400 shoots.

Once it comes on your good for another 30-50 pictures, or at least that is how it has worked on mine and I have had it for just about a year now.
