Can the FZ20 achieve results like these ?

I'll take a look tomorrow with my office computer (assuming the
boss isn't around too much...) and let you know if I see anything
that looks too far out of whack.
Sounds great Snargle, thanks.
I hope you don't take my comments
as being too critical..
Not at all! Like I said, I agree with your comments. You were just trying to make the point that the FZ20 cam is great, and it is.

Wayne - lovely to have you on the thread and please don't be so modest, your results are staggering and I still haven't seen results to touch yours yet.

Myself and some colleagues at work are devout compact users (FZ3, C765 etc) and we are all very happy with our excellent results, however we are often seen a 2nd class photographers as we don't use DSLR (even though often our results can be as good and better than some DSLR results we've seen!)

So this begs the question why is somebody so talented as yourself not using a DSLR ?.......it certainly makes us happier with our choice to not go DSLR yet but we were wondering what your reasons are.

TIA,
Mike.
A little birdie told me about this thread. I'm a bit embarassed by
it to be honest, but I'm thankful and inspired by all of the kind
words! Thanks!

I do love the c770 and think it's an awesome camera. I'm rather
positive that the FZ20 is awesome as well. Unfortunately there is
no perfect camera, but I think that both of these are getting
closer. Which one is better depends on one's specific needs I
suppose. But I do know that the the FZ20 is capable of delivering
stunning results. I see them here in this forum all of the time.
And there are characters like Phil Douglas. Or this guy that I
pointed out a while back:

As far as my images are concerned, they are mainly just a product
of me being COMPLETELY ADDICTED to this hobby (but it's a good
addiction, right?); having my camera handy as often as possible;
and taking LOTS of shots. You've got to love digital!

Thanks again. And enjoy your Panasonic cameras - they're good ones!

Hi MIke,

As many posters above have said, there are many many equivalent and better images being posted here on this forum all of the time, so it's kinda hard for me to accept those kind of accolades. However having said that, I'm VERY happy that you and others enjoy my images, so thank you very much!

Regarding a DSLR... why would anybody want one? They perform well at higher iso's; they auto focus faster; they have faster shot to shot times; you can shoot RAW if you like (mine only does TIFF which I don't use); you can get shallower DOF. All useless features. JUST KIDDING! Who wouldn't want one?!

Last May I sold my Canon S300 (digital elph) and wanted to upgrade to a camera with more manual controls, more zoom, more MP and better image quality. It had to still be a relatively small camera, and I wanted to do it for around $1,000 CN. Getting a dslr would have been at least $2000CN or more depending on the model and required lenses.

So I got my current digicam, which to be honest, has surpassed my expectations. One of the things I really love about it is that I can slap it in a relatively small belt pouch and take off on my inline skates or bike, or go on a hike, and have the camera quickly available. This has afforded me many photo opportunities which would have been missed if I only had a dslr. Also, I've been very happy with the image quality, so I haven't felt a burning need to upgrade due to that. And I find that I am usually trying to get as much DOF as I can get, so I am so far not coveting the shallower DOF that a dslr affords. And finally, I don't have to spend much time post processing my images, and I suspect that with a dslr, I would be spending a lot more time playing around with the images.

Of course, when I can, I will for sure be getting a dlsr (but most likely be keeping my current cam as well).

In the meantime, please send your donations to.... Lol!

Take care Mike!
