7D price cut - UK

It was £899 on their website until last weekend. Magazine adverts still show £899. Perhaps they were selling too many at £899 and decided to up the price.

Incidentally their price had been £979 for some time before they reduced to £899.

I bought mine from Mifsuds at their advertised price of £899. They
also sell lenses and cards.
Its £999 on their website.

I got mine in Jersey Channel Islands for £720 in a sale in January this year.
Fantasic Value

Yesterday I reported that Fotosense had reduced the price to £799. This morning, Warehouse Express are selling at £779. I bought mine for £899 some weeks ago, and thought I'd got a really good deal. Anyone who buys now is getting a real bargain!

Thanks for that info Dennis -at those prices I might be tempted to go through the BF ordeal !

Do you have any experience of dealing with faulty cameras with these two websites or would KM UK services take a 7D in direct from the buyer ?

Are there any updates on the availability of the DT new KM lenses that were originally announced as probably being available in the Summer/Fall of this year ?

I have no exoerience of Fotosense but have used Warehouse Express for several purchases. They are very professional and although I have had no reason to return anything I'd be surprised if they were anything less than professional when handling returns or problems.

I have dealt directly with Minolta on several occassions and had no complaints recently. They are professional and have given fast turnaround of the repairs. All of the problems were due to humidity damage in rainforest/jungle conditions save one when the 7000i first came out: my 70-210 3/5/4.5 zoom exhibited focus shift when changing aperture, which prevented accurate AF at apertures above f/5.6. Manual focus produced good sharpness at all apertures. I gave up trying to convince them of this and sold the lens, replacing it with a 75-300 Sigma Apo. This gave superb service until I bought my Dynax 7 and fouind Sigma couldn't update the chip on such an old lens. They did me a good deal on a modern replacement which works fine with the 7D.

As for BF, I thought I had this when I first bought my 7D but soon realised that I'd fallen into the trap of assuming the depth of field was symmetrical about the point of focus. Of course it isn't, and reading the centre point between focus markers that appear equally sharp gives a misleading indication of the focus. This was confirmed when I used the camera in real situations and achieved sharp images.

I must say I'm really impressed with the AS. I'm achieving sharp images on my Sigma 400/5.6 Apo at 1/60, a three stop gain. My Minolta135/2.8 is even better with sharp images at 1/8 (4 stops) but it is a nice lens to hold. Shooting on a 24/2.8 and using the ISO3200 setting is unbelievable; I've shot at 1/2 sec with pre-focussing and hardly anything visible in the viewfinder. Simply amazing!

Disappointments:
  • my old flashguns (3200i and third party ring flash) do not work with any exposure automation. They fire at full power only, on manual exposure control and do not work with P, A or S. I'm happy to use the ring flash on manual for macro.
  • the AF seems slightly slower than my Dynax 7
Everything else is very positive. Colour and 'grain' beat anything I did on film at 400 ISO. Higher speeds are simply amazing. I wished I had this camera for the trips I've made to Costa Rica, Borneo and India where I was shooting wildlife under quite poor lighting conditions.

To sum up, I'm a very happy bunny.
