F707v Confirmed

But you know that you (F505V) users will be assimilated soon ! :)

Regards,

Seven of nine
Bahahahahahahahahahahah!!©

Well, if Seven of Nine is doing the assimilating, who's going to complain!??

Truth be told, if expectation turns out to be truth, this may be one assimilation that we gladly welcome. :)

Ulysses,

I am an optimistic guy so i think Joshua reported from the birth of then successor to the throne.

Anyway i hope the coronation will be after november...

I would prefer Venus Williams.

i am currently on a two month vacation with through indonesia and thailand. i have numerous stops that have included Bangkok, Brunei, Bali, Jakarta, and Java. While i was in Brunei i was Staying at the Sheratin hotel.

After an afternoon of sightseen i cam back to the hotel and noticed sony fliers in the hall, i followed them and the lead into the confrence room of the hotel. inside were people prepairing for some sort of show. i casually walked in, i imediatly noticed that in the front of the room was the camera and camcorder display. now, since i had been out sightseeing guess what i had in my hand, my f505v. at the very front of the room was a projector displaying the show that these people were prepairing for. the person who was showing thie presentation asked me how i liked my camera? i responded by saying i loved it, but there were some things that i wished it had. i went into a list of things, such as night shot, steady shot, and some other incedentals. he told me that he thought i would be happy with the new camera sony was comming out with to replace my camera. he then brought it up on the wall with the slide projector. and there it was a huge picture of the 707 and all the new improvements listed. we began to discuss the new camera and he invited me for the showing of all the new sony product which would be an all day event the following day. and that is how i got the information regarding the infamous 707.
Hi there, Joshua.

I hope you're not getting vindictive on us. Certainly, no one here
is attacking you for what you saw. We are trying to understand the
relationships between the various specs that you have reported on.
No one doubts that you saw what you saw.

Excitement and anticipation for a possible successor to the King
will definitely be met with glee if it performs well, and probably
with hatred if it doesn't live up to expectations.

Thanks for your reports and the other little details that you've
been able to add on.

How in the world did you get into this conference? Were you a guest
at the conference, or did you sneak in somehow? And who exactly was
the fellow that you spoke with ?

Well, all I can say is that I definitely wish I was in your shoes and on your vacation. Heheheheh...

Each little post you present provides little tidbits of remembered information, so please keep it up. This is all very exciting, let me tell you!

A few more questions, please, if you will allow it:
  • Is this actually a STILL camera, as opposed to a video camera/camcorder?
  • Did the slide that you saw actually SAY a model number by the name of 707 ?
  • To clarify, it was NOT called the "707V", emphasis on the 'V', correct?
  • You mentioned Steadyshot, which is Sony's version of image stabilization as used in their camcorders. Is this what the list of new features called it? Or might it have had a different name?
  • 5x zoom is interesting when combined with a 5Mp CCD. Any chance that the zoom is actually higher? Or was that specified in the slide of features? It's just that it seems that image stabilization wouldn't really be needed for only a 5x zoom lens. Do you see what I mean? We do not currently have a problem handholding a 5x zoom.
  • Was there any other feature that stood out to you personally?
  • Did you notice anything about the button layout?
  • Did you notice anything about the flash or a change in its location?
  • Was there a suggested price?
  • How long did you stay at the conference?

Joshua,

You in one of my favorite areas in the world. Unfortunately they overdid it when they developed and played catch up, but who can blame them, most people would rather be driving rather than peddling a bike.

Enjoy your trip and don't worry about the flak, some of us believe you. Southeast Asians are very friendly, more likely than not you spoke with a Singaporean Chinese working for Sony. The timing is right for an update to the 505.

If you're still in Bali, be very careful if you visit the major monkey forest. Once in 1982, the monkeys jumped on me looking for food, reached into my chest pocket, grabbed a Kodak film box and took off for the trees where he commenced to tear the box open and start using his teeth to bite off the plastic top of the film container. He finally dropped it. You wouldn't want them to get a memory stick instead and start chewing on that. :0)

Don't miss a cremation ceremony. Great photo ops, and it's not as gloomy as it sounds. The family is happy for the attention and the fact that they are sending off the spirits in grand style.

I can address almost all of your questions, and i will do so. it is
most deffintaly a still camera, and was presented to me as the
dirrect succesor to the 505v. i can not rember if it is called the
707 or the 707v, i think it had the v at the end of it since they
said it was the succesor of the 505v. it was listed in bold yellow
writting 707. the data sheet said steady shot, and i had the same
question, is it nessisary since the 5x has no problem at full zoom,
but it does have a 5x lens on it, i noted to the person i spoke
with that i wish it had a larger zoom. but like you i do not see
why it has this feature. it does also have the night shot feature,
not a twilight like the camera currently has, a true night shot
identical to the camcorder line. the camera had an illumination lap
to help the focus, and yet it also had an auto flash that would pop
up when it was needed. i didn't see a picture of the back of the
camera, so i do not know the button layout, but the data sheet said
it had the new sony menu system, i am taking it that the new menu
system is that of the s75 and newer. the release date was mid
october in the asia market, and the suggested retail price was
right around 1100 US dollars. i was at the confrence the night
before for maybe and hour talking, and the second day i was there
for about 2 hours, i left so i could go sight see. i saw the camera
and camcorder section, and that was all i was interested in.
Hope that helps. let me know if there are any other questions.

That steady-shot will sure come in handy with a 2x or greater add-on lens :)
Maybe that's what they had in mind ?!?

Joshua:

Did you happen to notice any other camera models that were coming out? Specifically, was there a follow-on to the DSC-P1 mentioned? It is in a different league than the camera you've been discussing but it is very attractive for its size. If there was something new coming out that addressed its weak flash and some of the lack of manual controls, I'd be very interested in knowing about it.

Thanks for taking the time to report back.

Ulysses,

Isn't NiteShot just an IR device to illuminate out to about 10 ft? If so, this wouldn't be that big a deal to add, and might acually provide a secondary purpose in close-in focus.

Otherwise, Joshua's spec's mostly make sense, assuming a redesigned lens.

Whatever, if I save a hundred a week starting this week, I'll be ready, for the "Return of the King". (By the way, I never bought "The King" because the memory stick situation was so lame at the time. I bought a CD-1000. My haven't times changed!)

Still waiting for the 5 Mp...

Tom

Actually, you're thinking exactly what I'd been thinking. ;-)

Not Niteshot, the IR illumination scheme for seeing in darkness. I'm talking about Steadyshot, the image stabilization routine to eliminate the shakes. It would come in handy for zooming beyond 5x. :)

Assuming. Yes. We've been assuming that a 5Mp sensor would demand a redesigned lens from Carl Zeiss. They've taken the current lens as far as it's going to go.

Yes, they have, haven't they? ;-)

AREN'T WE ALL!! And they will definitely be coming over the hill soon. :)

your are a moron phil, regardless if you do take good pictures.
this was a sony meeting, and i looked at the proposed 707v. i saw
what was new because it was highlighted in yellow and had a new
sticker next to those features, as did all of the new sony
products. this convention wasn't just for cameras, it was all of
the sony lineup. so regarless of what you think you know, you
don't. i saw it and i reported back to this forum because this is
where i started learing about digital cameras. this is no hoax, and
i also addressed the issued of memory stick priceses. the only
answer i recieved regarding that was sony will have to lower prices
to match compition.
I wish Phil knew the head man of Minolta and not just Sony and Nikon. Seems to me, the S85 wasn't fake and only time will tell if it is a Sony 707v, like Josh reports or if it is false as Phil reports. Only thing i would be leary of(S75 owners) is when you upgrade soon to the new S85 from your S75, then if this false camera comes out, you will want to upgrade again. This makes the head man in Singapore happy. Only time will tell.
Randy
i'm in bali, indonesia right now, but i was in brunei, sumatra
yesterday. i was staying at the sheritin brunei, and sony was
having a confrence at my hotel! they were showing all thier new
stuff, under raps which will be comming out in the next year. it
was for large distrubuters only, but when i talked to the head of
sony for singapore and told him i had a 505v and wanted to know
about the succededing model he showed it to me. the f707v. it has a
5mp supper ccd, night shot, steady shot, a viewfinder, same shape,
same 5x zeiss lens, its a little sleaker looking, and uses the info
lithium m serries battery now! so there you go the release date is
oct for asia, and who knows when for the us. i know i will get one
asap. i don't know if anyone has said anything about it, since this
is the first time i have visted here since i left califonia 2 weeks
ago.

Joshua i wouldn't worry with the ones that are giving you hell, if you speak the truth and me for one, would have any reason to doubt you. Alot of these people, are the same people that went out and bought the S75 and bitched at some guy that came in here saying it would be a S85, as soon as the S75 came out. Guess what? That guy that reported the S85 was right and the funny thing about this was that Phil knew of the S85. But mentioning the new S85 wouldn't please the head man in Singapore. It would also destroy s75 sales. I have a question. I know Phil is bound by whatever when he knows of a release of a new camera and he can't release all information he has or knows for various reasons, as he knew the S85 was comming out. My question is this, if Phil knows of a camera that is comming out but he is suppose to be hush, hush about it, is he bound over by Sony or Nikon to come defend and say no it is no such camera comming out and Joshua is out of his mind? It really doesn't seem fair and people remember how you felt when you bought the S75 and a few days later the S85 was mentioned. People, this was not that long ago. So to call Joshua a liar, or to get on him doesn't seem fair to me. I think all should be reported, the good with the bad and everyones opinions, plus any information and not just what and when Phil reports, because i was like so many others in here when that guy reported the S85 and people gave that guy hell and said it couldn't be true because Phil had not reported it. Well it happened that that guy was right and his name wasn't Phil. Not everyone knows that guy from Singapore and we should all listen to everyone, Phil and the everyday guy that post in here.
Randy

Ulysses,

Joshua mentioned that it had NiteShot capabilities. That's the piece of the puzzle that doesn't seem to fit. It wouldn't have much value in a still camera, at least that I can see. But it wouldn't hurt either.

SteadyShot on the CD-1000 works perfectly. I can see the value for extension lenses that you describe.

Tom

Huh? I am upgrading! From my S75 to the 505V right now...!
I believe in the quality of the lens to CCD integration quality of it
that much! I have made my mind up that if Sony replaces the 505V
with a 707V or whatever, that I will not run out an buy it because
I will be satisfied with what I have now and need no more. Of course
if the 707V really blows the 505V picture qualtiy away, well I mught get
sick (and itchy) all over again.
