Why I love/hate Photoshop

Well Photoshop is such a powerful and versatile problem that in any single line of work or endeavor, there are many aspects of the problem that simply won't apply. In other words, some apply to print media, some apply to Web, some apply to 4-color process, some apply to fewer colors. Some even affect the way your photo file interacts with your layout program. So don't feel too bad about not learning "all that stuff" ... as long as you know how to do what is useful to you, you're using it quite well indeed!

I love photoshop because
It seems to be the best way to deal with my photographs
I hate photoshop because
It has all that stuff which I feel guilty about not learning
It costs so much

Hi Jono,

For a commercial program it is not expensive! It only becomes expensive when you buy it as a hobbyist.

As a programmer I am certain you understand this. FoxPro is a horrible amount of money by comparison!

It has so many aspects to it I don't think anybody out there can learn it to the full.

My weakness is not being a trained designer and every now and then I just buy in the skills to do things that I know can be done better by somebody else other than me!

If you need any help on the repro side let me know...

Regards,

Richard

and there was I thinking you were being profound :-)

I do think you're right though

but one of the things I like about the E-10 is that it only has what you need - not loads of unwanted program modes etc. etc.

kind regards

Hello Jono - loved your slug . . . or, rather, loved the photo of your slug!

OK, now me -
I love photoshop because:

It has the potential to correct many defects and/or shortcomings in the photos I take

It enables me to make fineart photo collages, and can accomplish anything I can imagine

It provides me with the comforting illusion that there is something in this life over which I can exert some measure of control

I hate photoshop because:
Even though it's worth it, it costs big bucks
Steep learning curve
Devours RAM
When coupled with the E-10, is highly addictive!

Laurie

Hi Laurie

thanks for the slug on the slug

Addictive - you said it - one of a couple of major distractions when I'm supposed to be programming (this being the other one)

:-)

kind regards
