F707v Confirmed

what ever happened to innocent till proven guilty (although some of you aren't from USA, so I dunno what your policy is)

I for one will keep an open mind (and some cash stashed aside ;) incase sony does pop out "The Heir".

And asking him all those questions about the lense (the specs? come on), the ccd, the viewfinder, the battery, whatever...think of how you are in a convention. do you really believe he got to do a one on one w/ the big guy? At a car show, do you learn every single spec about the car AT the show? i don't think so. there was probably a big mess of things going on, and in the confusion, he got bits and pieces of info...

and remember you guys had to eat your insults when the other guy announced he heard of the s85/75 whichever

Thanks for posting what you have. As I mentioned elsewhere, we've guessed wrong before, and we've wrongly second-guessed honest individuals before. So no offense is meant towards you at all.

Thank you for posting what you were able to remember from your experience. Hopefully, if you recall any more accurate details about the conference, even ones not related to this camera in question, you will feel free to let us know.

Anticipation is definitely running high for Sony to do something dynamic and spectacular before 2001 is over!

For now, it's a waiting game. :)

Some Sony camcorders began with an 'F' and others meant for semi-pro types as a 'V'... I hope I am not adding insult to injury by suggesting (ever so mildly) that Joshua may have seen a new Dgital Camcorder... though naturally I hope not! LarryG

This was the package that was given to me as i left the confrence. now i am no expert on camcorders, but if you look at the model number from the fliers, they are for unrelased cameras. i can not look that up at the website due to the connection that i am using, but they were talking about the next lineup of sony camcorders. i hope this adds some validity to my proposal.

Joshua,

We do believe that you were told about the unreleased SONY digital camera whose model number might be F707. That has never been challeneged. The doubts are mostly about the features set. Especially, IMHO , they cannot put Image stabilizer and 5 MP CCD without changing the lens design.

Joshua,

The pictures that you speak of are of sony camcorders. Is there any picture of the 707v Camera? Do you know what color it is suppose to be?. Is there a picture in your Sony booklet? If so could you take a picture of that and put on the forum. Thank you.

Sony would not introduce a camcorder with only a 5x zoom.

That's alright with me, but this time 'round I'll let you guys be
the guinea pigs... I ain't strong enuff for two disappoints in a
row ( hoping that possibility never arises, of course ).
If Sony messed around with the 505V's character ( ie:firmware )
unduly, I'll be grandly disappointed. It's their flagship camera
and they should treat it as such...so saturated colors and poor
AF...WE DON'T WANT. The 707V should be a camera designed for
semi-pros/advanced amateurs only and in that way, Sony will
have then completed their product line once more.

Hey there, Frank C.

I'm in total agreement with the sentiments you express, while only differing in the point of view that my choice in camera produced for me.
That's alright with me, but this time 'round I'll let you guys be
the guinea pigs...
OK, I'll do it!!! =)
I ain't strong enuff for two disappoints in a
row ( hoping that possibility never arises, of course ).
I was never really disappointed except for the viewpoint that:
1) The S70 was not what F505 users were hoping it would be
2) The S75 produced a lot more confusion than any Cyber-shot before it
3) The S85, while being perhaps a "better" S75, still confuses the consumer.

I have an F505V, so I was never overly disappointed as the above cameras never really had a huge impact on my personal decisions. They were more curiosities for me and a window into what Sony had in mind for the future.

For yourself, the S70 arrived at the right time, and the S75 did nothing at all (outside of usability features) to convince you that you needed to move on. Same conclusions, but for different reasons.

Well, F505V users will tell you that there are definitely some things that we want to be changed about our firmware. We call it the King for good reason and for our own fun. But definitely we need some changes. :)

For example, there is the BOCS confusion.

Then there is the discrepancies between color handling in Auto modes versus A and S priorities. Auto mode is tamer whethere we're talking about BOCS or BOCS-fixed cameras. Other modes are definitely redder and more vibrant. I'd rather have something more consistent across the board.

We need faster processing.

The F505V has excellent noise handling for its generation. But we need even more improvement in that department. We need buttery smooth behavior for a prosumer camera.
The 707V should be a camera designed for
semi-pros/advanced amateurs only and in that way, Sony will
have then completed their product line once more.
Bang-a-rang!!! Totally, totally, totally agreed on this one! If this comes to pass, the Jedi will rise again!

Hi Ulysses,

Don't have anything to add to this discussion except that it sure makes for some very interesting speculation. What I'm wondering though is where in the heck did you get this expression???: " the Jedi will rise again!"

i don't have a picture of the camera since it was only shown in thier presintation. but the camera is sliver with blue pipping. it has a similar shape as the current 505v but it looked a bit more aerodynamic. i know for a fact it has a 5mp cesor and a 5x zeiss lens. but i don't know if they changed the lens format to accomidate the new specifications. everyone can eat thier words when its released.

Hi there, Joshua.

I hope you're not getting vindictive on us. Certainly, no one here is attacking you for what you saw. We are trying to understand the relationships between the various specs that you have reported on. No one doubts that you saw what you saw.

Excitement and anticipation for a possible successor to the King will definitely be met with glee if it performs well, and probably with hatred if it doesn't live up to expectations.

Thanks for your reports and the other little details that you've been able to add on.

How in the world did you get into this conference? Were you a guest at the conference, or did you sneak in somehow? And who exactly was the fellow that you spoke with ?

Hi Ulysses,
