Is there a Pro series Sigma 70-200 digital lens

I finally made up my mind to purchase a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS. When I went to make the purchase I wasn't aware how important it was to have a filter on the lens at all times so that was an additional $250, So he is talking me into A Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX APO HSM IF Pro series, He's claiming it is made for digital cameras with different lenses.

Is it true the canon 70-200 2.8 IS is made for film camera's?

The Sigma 70-200 is made for film cameras, like the Canon 70-200.

Sigma has just introduced Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO HSM IF - notice the DG, which means it is optimized for digital. In real life it means that there is a new coating on the rear lens the prevent flare from light reflected off the sensor.

A perfect filter is $150 max, a very good Hoya Pro-1 filter should be no more than $50-$60. Some people uses filters, other people don't. On a tele, the lens hood is often sufficient to protect the front element. Personally, I am using Hoya HMC and Hoya Pro-1 filters - and pay

The Canon 70-200 IS f/2.8L was designed to have a full 70-200 angle of view on a digital full frame or 35mm film camera...On a digital camera such as the Rebel or 20D with a 1.6x sensor the angle of view will be an equivalent 112-320 to a 35mm or FF digital camera...

Simply put, that lens will work on all Canon EOS cameras, but the angle of view will be different depending on the sensor size...

Canon 70-200Lf2.8 $1150
Canon 70-200Lf2.8IS $1600

$50 or so for a good filter - I use one - but it probably detracts from image quality some - trade off for protecting the lens glass and optical coatings.

I would like to say that the sigma is the way to go but I have no experience with this lens - read the reviews.
