Come on everyone you couldn’t have missed the fireworks last night with your CP9XX. Here are two out of about thirty I got. These were shot after a great baseball game, though the fireworks were not as fantastic as last year's, I could hardly wait till after the game to try my CP990 out.

I was perched at the top of the stadium behind the last row of seats with little room struggling to get my camera ready and three 10 year olds asking a billion questions...There was a light rain starting and a pretty good wind going, and I had my light-weight tripod with me....arrrggh.

I had my WC-E63 and TC-E2 with me and I could not decide which to try. Well I went with the wide-angle because it was new, I was interested to see how it worked out nd I figured I could use the 3x on the camera to get enough zoom and still capture the breadth of the bursts. Worked out pretty good....did I choose the right lens..I-da-know, but it sure is fun trying!

Set up:
Manual mode, Manual everything
WC-E63
Focus set at infinity
ISO 100
Aperture 7+

Shutter speed 4.9 and 4.6 seconds respectively on the shots below also tried BULB @ 7-11 seconds trying to capture multiple burst on the same exposure. Lots of noise (maybe work this with PS filters??)
Focal Length 11.6

After the fireworks were over I realized I missed them except for through the LCD, but I got a couple of cool shots. Timing is everything and I did not quite have it correct until towards the end. The finale was really lame but we all had a great time.

In PS6 I just set the levels down a bit to reduce the smoke, cropped and saved. Hey, how can you select fireworks in PS6? I would like to make some images of “my own” when I get a chance?

Hope you had a great 4th and remember, this IS the greatest country on the planet except for whatever planet Frances lives on!

Nice shots. I wanted to try this last night and couldn't find any place where the other lights were not in the background.

Great shots Tom. Here are some I took with my 990. I used shutter @2.00 sec and aperature @f5.5. Around 8.9mm, no adapter :-( I just resized and saved in psp7.

I had some problems and lost a bunch to focus...eventhough I set it to 30ft..the infinity focus never focuses on anything no matter how far,so I just ignore it.I did get a couple of shots that came out ok.

hanks and mine can't hold a "sparkler" to your moon shot...nice framing with the two bursts and the moon in the middle!! Thanks

Tom, Your shots are really good! I'm so impressed! Thanks for the description of your setup, too.

I researched settings here on the forum prior to trying this on the 4th....our vantage had a tree on the right, but I stuck the camera/tripod through an iron fence to avoid most of it! Used the remote cord...Infinity setting in M, tried 2 sec, 4 sec, and 8 sec....I like the 2 sec shots best...the 8 sec. were way too noisy....I wish I had been far enough away to have some other scenery in the shots, though...

Actually, the one with the moon was a lucky shot. I wasn't "aiming" for it ;-)

Nice shots Tom. I used the fourth as an excuse to try out my new 995. You can see the pictures here (lots of pictures so it may take a while to load):

I used a tripod and played around with the settings myself. I mostly used the autofocus (seemed to work better than infinity) and mostly used the manual "BULB" setting for the shutter speed. ISO = 100 . All the photos are direct from the camera with no retouching - that comes later. Enjoy.

Hi everyone! My first post here. I've been lurking for the past 1.5 months and am greatful to all those here who have helped me.

Inspired by this thread, I thought I'd share some of my fireworks photos I shot on the fourth with my new cp995. The camera was mounted on a tripod. I used a DigiSnap2000 remote control. A wc-e63 wide angle was used (with UV filter) because I was right under the show! The fist picture was taken at a relatively low angle; the others were almost directly overhead.

Original pictures taken UXGA with Fine resolution. Focus was locked at infinity. F-Stop was 7.5. Shutter speed varied between 2 and 4 seconds.

I managed to take 73 pictures! The DigiSnap made it possible to actually enjoy the show while taking shots. Basically, I just kept one eye on the LCD and occasionally adjusted the panhead.

Some shots had lots of noise I had NR disabled because I didn't want to take too much time between shots. Next time I'll enable the NR.

Actually, you could take one dark photo, and use that against all your shots to eliminate some noise.

Actually I have three dark photos from that night. How is this subtraction done?

(Is this procedure described in the inova ebook? I was going to wait until the 995 info is published, but I'm rethinking that decision...)

I've never done it. Peter iNova has a PS action for it.

Hello All!

Here in Western Massachusetts we had a rainy week for the fourth resulting in many cancellations and postponements. Finally got out last night: 880 Scene Mode for Fireworks (4seconds f7-11 depending on zoom, WC-63, tripod mounted)
