Hi all,

Hoping to buy a FZ-20 very soon, and going to ask about the noise issue that i have read so much about. Is it that bad???Is it worse than any other non-dslr camera on the market.I own a G5,and know they are not the best, but easy to live with.Is the FZ-20 worse??
Any input will be much appreciated.

Check out the following site. Observe chart number 4.
I have no major issues with my FZ20 on the noise front.

Use 80 if you can, 200 if you have to, 400 if you just can't get the shot any other way. I personally wish the noise was more "grainy" and less "digital-y" as the aesthetics of the noise is what drives me nuts about the cam. Blue and green speckles, yellow blotches, all of which I have managed to fix in photoshop, but it takes so much time....

But that's at high ISOs and with shots I plan to display/give as a gift/etc.

Most of the time, it isn't a problem. I would like a dslr though. But they aren't good enough yet to justify the purchase in my eyes.

Using the histogram as my guide. I used to shoot primarily in aperture priority but the auto shutter speed is too conservative, leading to overexposure. With the histogram, I can push the exposure a little and get pretty good shots.
