I have been trying to scratch enough pennies together for a decent telephoto for my bird photography for a long time, but convincing my wife to give me the go-ahead had yet to be futile.

When I saw your picture here I started thinking well maybe I should go for one of these now, and postpone the telephoto until next year. Afterall the macro is about half or less money than I had been planning to spend on the telephoto, surely the wife would give her OK for that!

I showed her your picture, and after a huge ooooh! and a couple wows from her, I dropped my bomb. (snide grin!)

She imediately inquired... "I thought you wanted a big bird lens?"

Me... "well yes dear I do want one, but this one is half the money, and at least then I'd have a decent macro lens to keep me happy until I can afford to get the telephoto I want!"

She.... "Just order than damned telephoto so I don't have to keep listening to your sniveling!!"

Me.... Hello B&H? Yes, please send me one Sigma 100-300 EX, and one Sigma EX 1.4 teleconverter. :-D They should be here on friday or monday!

I guess the macro will have to wait until next year!

Thanks Sam! LOL

I am glad it worked out for you ;-)

I'm putting all my lenses in a cabinet, where my wife dares not to look ;-) She is afraid of looking in there and getting upset ;-)

I just try to hide all the UPS boxes when they arrive.

Mike,

Even if the shutter speed was 1/1000 that would be a 1/4 of the total movement which would be ~ 100degrees? which would make 25 degrees of movement? I don't see any movement in this picture at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong with the above, I'm just trying to understand how it was done?

Cheers
Wing speed of a honey bee: 250 beats/s
Shutter speed of shot taken 1/640

How much movement did you expect in that shot?

Regards,
Mike
I'm sure that there is NO way of asking about the authenticity of a
picture without hurting your feelings somewhat. Just the fact that
I ask the question it's going to be seen as insulting, but I had to
ask!
