Newest (happy !) member of the 70-200VR club....

Thank you for the kind words, Jd3. I appreciate those comments.

I look forward to the images you'll be making with your new gear. Style will fall into place, just point your eyes at what interests you, see how you want to see.

keep the good work coming !

If you want more flower pictures (or at least images with flowers
in them), here's a recent thread I put up on the D70 forum shot
entirely with the 70-200VR:

And here's a taste:

And here's one from the 17-55DX...

Enjoy the lens.

Mike:

I use my 70-200 on a D70 as well, and with AF-S, it's pretty darn fast ! Given that it's an ultrasonic motor, I don't know as how you'll see a huge difference in focus speed on a better body.....now, frames per second (like for sports) is another story....

I don't know much about the older digital bodies -- I came VERY close to getting a D2H instead of my 70-200 so I could use a bunch of my old manual focus nikkor lenses with metering....but at the last minute, switched for the lens (better choice for me -- I'm not a sports shooter and the d70 3fps is just fine).

If you're craving a fast, pro body, my advise would be to pick up a D2h....if you can't spring for the $2k now, wait awhile and used ones will start showing up for less (although having tried a D2h at my dealer, I agree that $2k new is a steal !).

good luck on your choices ! Whatever you end up with, I'm sure the 70-200 will serve you well !
Best,

Jd3
jd3, I am of course enjoying my VR. However, I use it with a D70
and wish the camera could match the VR's speed. I'm thinking about
getting a second body. Can't afford the D1H or D2H. But I have seen
the first version D1 for around 500-600 used. Does anybody that
combo would work? Would appreciate any input.

jd3,

thanks. Certainly I have my eye on the D2H. I'm not unhappy with the D70. I do miss some sports shots because of it but I have nailed some good ones, too.
