Himalayan watercolor

Thanks Conchita. Now if I could get the other two "element" actions
I've downloaded to work...

John
I'm late to this party as usual and Carrie was kind enough to point it out to me. Because there's so many posts to this I wondered if someone had a link to the action for PS 7, if there is one, I see there's one for elements. I'm on dial up and everything is very slow, would take forever to get through all these.

Thanks a bunch!

You should be able to use the regular .atn file linked in Erick's last post in this thread, Ingrid.

Sorry I meant this post:

although it says CS there's nothing in it that won't run in an earlier version, as far as I can remember.

Would't you know it your action seems to be working for everyone and I had to flub something up. So far I can say I am new to Photoshop but pretty soon that excuse isn't going to work.

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I followed the instructions

1) select sketch layer mask & paint in black to erase the border. I did half as can be seen on my screen capture here leaving the right side white.

Then I selected the watercolor layer mask and painted in white on the half that I had painted in black on the sketch layer mask.

Are you suppose to in effect erase everything on the sketch layer? Anyway that is what I did and when I paint in white on the watercolor layer nothing happens. Are there some specific settings I am missing?

Make sure that the mask is selected (you will see a circle within a square icon to the left of the thumbnail for the layer) Now paint with black ONLY along the edges. Real water colors don't generally use the entire paper for the painting.
Then I selected the watercolor layer mask and painted in white on
the half that I had painted in black on the sketch layer mask.
Are you suppose to in effect erase everything on the sketch layer?
No, just the edges.
Anyway that is what I did and when I paint in white on the

Paint the white in the water color mask layer, not the paint part.

I have a feeling im going to regret asking this question!
When i try to paint on watercolor layer i get the following:

Could not use History Brush because no history state has been dersignated as the source for painting.

I also dont seem to have the the circle within the square next to the left of the thumbnail.

Wayne,

You don't need to use the history brush. Simply select the standard brush and be sure to paint on the layer mask, not on the layer itself. You select the mask by clicking on the right-most rectangle icon of the layer.
