I am not sure, but I believe that all new D1X have the
buffer-upgrade standard.
Question: If you really want to spend almost $4000 for a 4 year old
camera (even a good one, don't take me wrong, but nontheless using
at least 2-3 generation old technology), why not spend another
$1000 and get the top model? Or go for a used one. Checking on
E-Bay and some other stores like KEH (
www.keh.com) you can get a
used one between $1600 - $2400, most likely with the buffer upgrade
already installed. Check it out.

Who & what would be the charge for a new Nikon D1x?

I may have a two year old D1X w/less than a 1000 frames available this Friday. This camera Kit has all firmware and buffer upgrades. This is my #3 backup camera. It is in pristine condition, never been outside or exposed to moisture, dust, etc. It will go for less than $1800.
