With all the talk about the D7 I'm wondering why the D5 appears to be completely ignored. I'm looking for a good quality digicam but don't want to spend more than US$1,000. I like both the sony s75/85 and the nikon 995 but I really want more of a zoom than 3 or 4x. I also want CF/microdrive (which leaves out the sony).

So tell me, are people ignoring the D5 because it's not likely to be among the top 3meg cams, or just because the D7 stands out as the first top notch 5meg cam for under US$1,500?

I think that the D5 will get more attention when it gets closer to being released. So far, all we have are reviews of D7s. Nobody has seen a D5 yet as far as I know. Bryan

Well, I am waiting for her, I like it's zoom range more than that of the D7, not mensioning the price. I think the D5 is a better choice for me than the D5 , but let us wait for the review first, who knows, may be it will produce less noise than the D7 (due to it's smaller CCD).

In my opinion the D5 has the potential to be the best serious digital
camera in the 3MP class - which is a near optimum resolution for
people who are trying to balance file sizes, editing speed and ease, and
image quality. I think a lot of people are pixel counters and have
been "captured" by the D7 in that respect.

Keep the threads alive for info about the D5 - I'll be reading too.

I'm not really a pixel counter but I like the 28mm EFL wide end of the D7 compared to the 35mm wide end of the D5. You can always crop the 5MP down to 3MP (or whatever) to get a higher EFL zoom but you can't make it wider except by using auxilary lenses, which is seldom a satisfactory solution.

The ability to do more severe cropping is always nice - not just for the
"telephoto effect". There are some excellent WA converter attachments
now, however, that make it possible to get 28mm EFL without much
problem - just a few seconds more set-up time. The two cameras are
a nice pair of choices - I hope they meet expectations.
