With help from Sergio, who made a test image with the D2x at 800 ISO, no NR, for 10 minutes, it's clear to me now that D2x is no good for deep-sky astrophotography. How superb the camera is for daytime, it sucks on long exposure photography in this domain (weighing my words carefully not to offend someone).

Well, one can't have it all. Astrophotography is a specialized domain in which Canon unfortunately is lightyears ahead :(

Being a very longtime Nikon user I have to get myself a Canon :(. Well, I have waited 3 years for Nikon to come up with something decent, even bought a D70 for the purpose. A shame, I will end up with two systems.

Does anyone know a working Nikon lens to Canon EOS adapter? i don't intend to buy Canon glass, just the body.

... and you may be interested in the Canon 350XT, an inexpensive eight megapixel body.

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!

I prefer the more solid 20D. Which adapters would work, and any idea where I can get one?

See if you can import an 20Da from japan, the one made for astrophotography. It doesn't have the IR blocking filter on the sensor that makes DSLR's poor astro-cameras.

There are a few import companies, or you could possibly even get a japanese store to ship it to you. It probably has english menus and manual available as its pretty much just like a normal 20D with a few astro features.

Dodi,

Here's the site for adapters:
http://www.cameraquest.com/

And this should be the specific page you need:

Do some good work, okay?

My best,

Ed

Well, some people need the long exposure. Just like some need excellent rendition at 100 iso :)

Yep, and it makes crappy espresso, too ... What was Nikon thinking?

Not generally true, the D70 has great abilities for night time photography. It's possible to remove the IR blocking to improve it's sensitivity further, see ..

The 20Da still stands as a great option for that type of photography if the price difference is not an issue however. Good luck on your choice!
