I've been using an S110 as my one and only camera for ages, but it finally died on me so I need to find a replacement. I've played with a friend's SD110 (note the differing "D"), but I wasn't impressed with the quality of the photos.

I'm wondering if anyone who has replaced their S110 with another (recent) Canon has any recommendations. I'm leaning towards the SD200, given I'd be gaining something in speed, resolution, and movie-madness (I actually used the rather low-fi clips from the S110 for various projects). The other obvious choices are the SD20 or the S410 (I'd include the SD300, except some people have claimed that the SD200 is better, megapixels be-darned). I don't care too much about megapixels, although the ability to make larger prints would come in handy. And, anyway, no matter what I choose I'll be making strides in that area. I'm more concerned about finding something that has the "this-feels-right" feel of the S110. People seem to talk about the S400/S410 as if it were a digital classic. I think the S110 was one - to me, anyway. I'm just wondering what camera would logically follow.

I've also played with some recent Nikons. The 3700 takes decent photos, but the on/off button's where the zoom should be (after using a Canon for so long). The GUI is also a little baffling to someone who's so used to something else. So I think I'd like to stick with Canons. Again, it's a this-feels-right thing. To me.

Oh, and if it isn't obvious from what I've said so far, I'm looking for something pocketable. Or at least as pocketable as the S110 was.

Thanks!

I think the SD200 is a perfect replacement for the S110. We purchased one for my mother-in-law last Christmas, and the quality of the photos and size of the camera just floored me. My wife wants one now (the G6 is nice, but not very portable).

What exactly happened to your S110? I got the dreaded E18 error on mine last week, and ended up taking the darned thing apart. Of course now I can't put it back together, but I figure that I was just tinkering with trash at that point anyway.

Well, my S110 has just gradually given up the ghost. For awhile its only problem was a lag in the LCD - the image on the LCD took forever to catch up with whatever the camera was pointed at. My suspicion is that this might have something to do with a few adventures it went on strapped to the front of my bicycle (riding through bumpy Brooklyn). That was a couple years ago - and surprisingly enough its worked alright ever since. But now it won't turn on at all. Except, of course, when it does.

I'm definitely leaning toward the SD200. It'd be nice to get better pictures, speed, AND a bigger LCD. That way I don't feel like I'm buying the same thing all over again.

Sorry to hear about your Elph's passing. I replaced the hard drive in my iBook a couple times and thought its innards were a marvel of miniaturization. I can only imagine how teeny everything is inside one of these cameras. You need to train a squirrel to put it back together.

I too have an S110 that I got on vacation back in 2000 and is still working, that I keep in a back pack that goes to and from work with me. I did upgrade to a S400 about a year ago that is great and I have no regrets at all. But about 8 months ago I also got a S1. Yes it is only a 3.2 but it does have a 10x zoom that is super. I did these upgrades so that I could still use my cf cards that I have. I like the cf format and would more than likly stay with that format myself.
