KM is working on new model A250 based on A200 platform. A250 is a 5M DC (sensor size 2/3 inch, same as A200 but with bigger pixel size) A250 will have lower noise, high dynamic range, quicker response, support Microdrive up to 5G (FAT32). The camera can record DVD quality Mpeg4 movie 752*576@25FPS. AS and precis digital zoom (digital zoom without losting of resolution) works when shooting in movie mode. You can record 45 minutes DVD quality Mpeg4 movie on a 1G card. This means for a 5G card you can record 225minutes. The target of A250 is to combine high quality DV and DC together.

Where did you learn this? What is "5M DC" - is that the name of the chip, or does it imply a 5 megapixel camera?

This could be a "barn burner" for them - and just to be clear about what I mean, this camera could be a really huge success. I'll eagerly await more news.

I'm confused. How can a sensor remain at the same size and resolution, but have a larger pixel size?

Going from 8mp to 5mp, fewer pixals on same sized CCD, so they can make them bigger. This is what I'd hope someone would do, should get quality closer to DSLR... hope this is real! If they can make it 10 or 12X that'd be great too.

Remember the good old 7-series and the A1, which have 2/3 CCD....

The area on the CCD is not completely taken by the light-sensitive pixels. The CCD also contains circuitry to get the data out. One of the tricks in the newer generation sensors (such as the 1/1.8" 7Mpixel Sony CCD and the Canon 8Mp Sensor in the new Digital Rebel) is to reduce the area needed for the circuitry, so the pixels can get bigger.

as an A2 owner (8mp) - it was seeing A1 images (5pm) with higher Dynamic Range - that convinced me that the oly 5mp dslr was ok - mp race is overrated.

It'll never happen. 10mp - maybe, but no 5mp anymore...if wishes were fishes...

One more thing - either DVD quality or MPEG4, you can't have both at the same time.

gee.......

if this A250 really coming out and able to have 10x optical zoom and MPEG4 unlimited movie....i'll getting it for sure ; P

i've been waiting for A200 so long....was about to order it on mid-january and rumor said Canon may annonce S2 IS / Pro 2 which has better quaility and better movie mode.... and now here we MAY see the A250....

but i guess most people would like to see A3 instead huh!? say 1MP EVF / LCD , and within 4x zoom range AF beam enable ; P

WOW!!! What an interesting reaction. 12 hours gone by, usual wish lists and technical know how expressed but only one guy has bothered - and then in a very gentle way - to ask for source and evidence to back up the very positively expressed post.

The original poster hasn't replied.

What is it about people here that, every time someone claims a new and "better" model is on its way, they either go into ecstasy or type a list of all the things the new camera has to have to improve on the one they just bought - at great cost - but which will be discarded as soon as something else, which they won't be satisfied with, comes along.

Cameras are for taking photos, not for continual dissection by bar room techies.

.....of course the original poster has ignored the request for substantiation of his claims but has found the time to post more spurious "info" on another thread.

Quiang added today that the A250 will be bundled with a 5 GB microdrive. That tips his hand to me; this is just a joke. I'd love to see an upgraded Axx camera, but that's very unlikely IMO, and this "A250" is impossible - not technically impossible, just something KM would not build, at this stage of the digicam market.

Quiang, I hope you had a good laugh. It's been an interesting thread.

Was Qiang the guy that 'leaked' the info the A2 about a month before it was announced?

Also will have to handle much bigger than 5g microdrive. Hitachi just announced a 10gig microdrive for cameras.
