Hi,

I just bought yesterday my first SLR camera (Nikon D70). I heard about the new Canon 350 and even the camera shop assistant told me that it will be out in the shelf in 2 months, I still bought D70 anyway. I own canon P&S camera (ixus500) therefore I don't care about buying Nikon or Canon

The reason why I bought my D70:
  • It's a great camera
  • It came with twin lens which suit my needs.
  • I'm happy with 6MP (never printed photos bigger than the postcards
in my whole life)
  • It's cheaper then the current rebel 300D and will be cheaper than 350D
(with the lens that I have currently i.e. 18-70 and 70-300mm)
  • I got AUD$200 rebate
I'm happy with my purchase and looking forward to practise with it :D!

Is there a tutorial for beginner on wildlife photography? I'll be in African Safari this September and would like to take photos like a pro.

So people who fights about which one is better, should request Phil to create a new space called 'Nikon VS Cannon' and they should just get a life!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum and to the D70. Your reasoning for your purchase is sound and very mature.

I bought my D70 in November and I have loved it. I'm a much better (but still not great) photographer because of what it takes to learn and from the generous and experienced people on this forum.

I'm looking forward to your pictures from your safari. That sounds like a great adventure.

We're going to the Grand Canyon in May and taking the mule ride down to spend the night at the bottom. I'll take a lot of pictures of the canyon with my D70, but I'll leave it locked up while on the mule ride. I'll use my Canon Elph for that adventure. Not quite Africa, but I'm looking forward to taking a ton of pictures.

Warmest regards and good shooting,

Dan

You will love the nikon d70 as I have love mine. This is my first DSLR and it has been breath taking in the image quality department. I love all those buttons for easy fine tunning.

I hope you would not mind if i ask where did you get your D70 and how much you have paid for?

Hi,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will be looking forward to seeing grandcanyon photos :-).

Thank you also to the link to the wildlife photos technique. I had a quick look on it and will spend more time on it for sure. I get so motivated in learning more to produce more good photos (btw, I feel like throwing away my old photo albums, I can tell now the differences between good photos and not :-) ).

I was about to buy my D70 online however, the offline price (the shop price) is cheaper than any of the online shop (very odd and rare).

I paid AUD$2199 and will obtain AUD$200 rebate from the Australian Nikon distributor (Maxwell) from ted's (see below link).

Welcom to the forum an gongrats woth your camera.

You will like it much.

The XT will be a nice cam, but the D70 is too and i don't think the 350D is a all winner, just closer to de D70. Give or take...

Have fun with the D70.
