Dust on the CCD

Hello,

Well, I zoomed in to about 6 times magnification and I still don't see it. Give me another hint, about where is it on the picture? Or, circle it and post. Something is screwy, I have a good Trinitron monitor, and am setting close to the screen but don't see it. Is my DSL provider screwing up the image, maybe making it into a lousy lossy jpeg, to save memory???

Recently i have found a spot in a very very limited number of my
pictures... i did some testing and i have narrowed it down to dust
on the CCD
WOW!!! This is a TERRIBLE problem.
Now please tell me what/where you are seeing. All I can see are
jpeg looking artifacts. It's not April 1st is it!!!

I'm sure you are trying to tell me that i am making a big issue out of a little bit of almost nothing... but you should know that aside from doing graphic arts, programming and photography i was a QA tester for 8 months... unfortunately ths means i notice the small things a lot more then others might... its bi-product of quality assurance and a curse :-P

This could also be a condesation spot. Have you been taking any photos out in a cold day recently?
Recently i have found a spot in a very very limited number of my

on the CCD

here is a 100% crop of the dust mark (you need good eyes! its a
circular discolouration

what must i do to remove it or should i just live with it as it
only shows up in 1% or less of my pictures... it is easy enough to
edit out and it rarely shows up. i have gone to many of my pictures
done some crazy editing to make the dust mark show up and it is
impossible to find in 99% or mor of my pictures (i have not tested
all but i have seen all the pictures i have taken).

what to do?

Try and adjust the gamma or contrast or something of ur monitor
because it is there. a dark circle in mid of picture.

thanks all, but I still can't see it. My gamma should be ok, I can see ABC and XY (but not Z) on this sites gamma check/review page. I ran brightness and contrast up and down and still couldn't find it. Very strange, am I the only one?

So what are you going to do, live with it, hope it goes away, send
your camera in?

If you send your camera in would like to know how the outcome
is for you and the cost if any.

So far i have decided to live with it...

A) its edit out able 100% of the time

B) if i have to pay for shipping or something its a cost i'd rather not have as I am unemployed

C) whats to stop the next camera from having another problem (i'm not saying panasonics are bad i'm just saying that any consumer electronics can have a flaw

D) too much down time... i guess i have bonded with my camera and i rarely for for mor then a couple of days without taking a picture

that is my reasoning

it could also be liquid residue from the manufacturing/assembly process. Like dust this problem also arises in DSLR's when people put too much and/or use inappropriate liquid when cleaning the sensor.

Taking these digicams apart is not rocket science (it helps to have a parts manual with exploded assembly views handy), you would of course void the warranty. Then you to keep in mind many/most/some sensors have various and assorted filters permanently mounted over them .. so if the spot is on the SENSOR itself you're SOL anyway. If it's on a filter over the sensor sometimes it can be cleaned, provided you've got the right fluid to do it without screwing up the filter coating(s).

Like dust on DSLR's it can drive you insane or you just accept it and focus on taking pictures, not obsesssing about the inevitable dust spots.

Well, if you did it as you say, this could easily be condesation. It was discussed in a thread here about a month ago, you should definitly get small nylon bag with a zipper or something that will keep the bag tataly closed, and put you camera inside before you enter warm area. Leave it inside for about an hour or so.
Maybe now it's to late, but for the future...
