(For what it's worth), just got this reply to my order inquiry yesterday.

Dear Ms. ------- ,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care. I still see that
although delayed, the order still can ship by 7-2. If we cannot
get the item from one vendor, we can get it from another to meet
the estimated date of shipping.

Once again, I apologize and truly regret any inconvenience or
frustration this matter may have caused. We value you as our
customer and your satisfaction is very important to us.

Respectfully,
Patrick

If you can deal with the 2x zoom of the s110, get that. It's much smaller than the 775. I just like the 775 more AND it is almost $100 cheaper. If you're gonna buy a cam, do it by the end of June so you get Dell's 20% discount, plus u can use your dell dollars. it asks who refered you, so can u put me? :)

I didn't have the option to buy the michrotech w/ out the reader, so that's why i bought it. Hopefully it'll be faster than transfering the images straight from the camera. It would save the battery, but if you have your cam at your computer, you'll probably be charging it. Remember, the 775 comes w/ a lith-ion battery and a charger, unlike your dumb kodak....

o btw, you'll get much better macro shots w/ the 775. now u can get nice picks of your Fosters rather than those blurry shots your kodak took!

Well, it's a game of chicken...do we wait for a review and risk the
loss of the 20% discount, or just bite the bullet and hope for the
best. I'm just hoping the lens quality is up to par. But it begs
the question--given the battery and charger are included, and given
that Dell certainly will make a profit--exactly what kind of camera
we're going to end up with at that price?

Drew
The discount is for ALL accessories. Dell is selling the camera for $417, but there is like an $83 discount. It's a bargain!
  • Jeremy

No, the 775 does not have a movie mode, but it has 3X optical zoom that the canon S110 does not have. I would consider movie mode a big plus if you could record more than 60 seconds, which I don't think the Canon can. also, Dell does not carry the S110 (therefore no discount), I don't think you can find the S110 anywhere near $334. and i think because of the 3X zoom, you should really compare the 775 with the canon S300, which is even more expensive.
for new items -- within 30 days. refurbs -- within 14 days. not
sure if this refers to Dell brand products only, which i doubt.
anyway, a link to it appears (online store policies) as you
complete your order.

I sure wish I could see a review before the purchase, too- but am not so worried about the price. Dell is well known for selling things below their cost. Maybe they'll make it up in volume... :)

The coupon says that the free shipping is for ground only, but I put mine in for overnight and it still says $0. Hopefully it's true!

Yes, the 775 DOES have a movie mode. It doesn't record sound, but it does RECORD MOVIES.

Yes, dell DOES carry the s110: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.asp?Sku=304725&spagenum=1&category_id=178&keyword=&mnf=&prst=0&prend=0&mnfsku=&orderby=manufacturer%2Cname&SearchType=&customer_id=19&Pageb4Search=&page=search%2Easp

It's selling for $400 after the discount. So it comes down to paying $70 extra for a smaller camera. Smaller doesn't necessarily mean better though!

thanks for the info/correction... that's great! didn't find the movie mode in the specs and assumed it didn't have it. no sound is ok, could always put music over video.

as for the S110 at Dell, gosh, i searched for that so many ways yesterday -- the only Canon camera they were showing was the S100. had the S110 been in stock and if i saw it yesterday, i might have purchased that instead. but $70 plus having to cancel and reorder for another out of stock item is too much.

I have a backorder on gateway - how do i cancel my order at gateway and switch?
To Erin, Jeremy, Sandeep, and Peter iNova:
Much thanks for your help and info on price, specs, and review of
775. To anyone still interested, Dell Computer is now having a 20%
off sale for a limited time on software and accessories, and they,
too, list the 775. Their standard price is $417.95; with the sale
you can order it for $334 and change plus $4.50 ground shipping.
Basically, $340 for what looks to be a great digicam.

I would check at Dell to see if the sale is still on. I think it
might be only for Dell branded accessories now.
Sadly, that's what the Dell website now says
-- 20% off on 'Dell-Branded' accessories.

I tried putting a CP 775 in my cart -- no discount.

Such an emotional roller-coaster...

I placed an order on 6/29/ early am East Coast time and got the 20 % but was charged tax since I am in North Carolina....the status says delayed though since they are out of supply

Just spoke to Dell.
I was told they still expect to ship about July 2 and then again on July 21st.
My hopes are not high for getting the first shipment.

Their rep said the 2 hour delay processing my order would've pushed me back in the line.

Well, maybe that order status page will give me an unexpected surprise.

Sandeep,

Did Gateway notify you or something about a shipping date?
My Gateway order status still says backordered.
No e-mails or anything else to indicate a shipping date.
Or are you saying "tomorrow", based on the June 30th "estimated" date?
My order is still set to ship tomorrow from gateway.com

Just realized that I posted the Gateway e-mail to my Dell information!
I apologize for the confusion, as this order status is making me nuts.
The Dell information below is what I was told today on the phone.

Gateway says July 21st in their e-mail and about July 16th on the phone.
I've come to the conclusion that nobody has any idea what's going on.
Except maybe Nikon.

Dell 20% of accessories deal is now over, so you can't get the 775 at $334.36 from Dell anymore. Hope you got in on it while it lasted.
