Please help! Anyone just bought a 20D? Where? Deperately need to buy one now!

You might want to check out a good book and take a compact camera with you on the trip (just to be sure). If you're a natural then there's no sweat, but I'd hate to see the photos of the trip ruined because you didn't have 'the hang of it yet'. A DSLR is a different tool than a compact camera, it has a learning curve. Some people pick it up faster than others though (especially if you already have SLR film experience)!
Enjoy your new camera and your trip!

Doug has solid advice, as always. I would look at all aspects of the deal before deciding -- price, reputation, stock, responsiveness, hassle free returns policy. If you take this kind of wide view you will settle on one of the few four star vendors, like B&H. I would never buy something as expensive or important as a 20D from one of the price-mongers. As for B&H, I have never had a single cause for complaint in many years of buying from them.

You may pay a few dollars more from a four star vendor, but with those few dollars you have bought peace of mind for the purchase of an expensive, complex product that very well may need post sale support from the seller.
Hi, d,

I ordered my 20D from B&H (due here tomorrow!). Their price was not
the best from the "respectable" dealers, but I have had
consistently good results from them and I thought I would spend a
few more bucks for whay I hope is the most foolproof relationship
on this important purchase.

Be aware that the depth of field is much shallower. Also be sure to check the histogram in review mode. Touch the Info button when you review your first image. The histogram is a better measure of the exposure than just the image on the LCD. The histogram will show automatically if you don't touch the Info button again. Shoot flash shots in manual camera mode. Don't be afraid to up the ISO. The higher ISO performance is marvelous in comparison to other digicams.

Just to update everyone:

I got my 20D!! I ordered it from Buydig.com last Wednesday at around 2 AM. At 10 AM I got a call to confirm the order, and the camera is shipped out right away. They didn't even try to sell me anything over the phone! I did go for the the 2nd day delivery since I was in a hurry. And the camera arrive at my doorstep Thursday afternoon. Everything is included. Nothing is missing. If I want to return the camera I can do it in 10 days with no fees. But of course I won't. I'm so in love with the camera I have already taken a few hundred pictures.

Thanks again for everyone's help and input.
This list is the result of my numerous hours of research and will
help anyone looking to buy a 20D in the next little while. I
compiled a list of "reputable" vendors and listed them in order by
their prices. All of these vendors were recommended from multiple
sources. Buydig, B&H, and ButterflyPhoto were especially
recommended the most. I'm sure there are other vendors out there.
But these are the ones I read the most about. Please do inform me
if you know of other "reputable" vendors.

First column: Body only
Second column: Body with the 18-55 mm lens
Third column: Price of overnight shipping
Fourth column: Total cost of kit + shipping

$1,289 NA...... $50 $1,339 BuyERetail
$1,292 $1,347 $43 $1,390 Butterflyphoto
$1,323 $1,379 $30 $1,409 Buydig
$1,349 $1,399 $30 $1,429 BeachCamera
$1,369 $1,428 $50 $1,478 Willoughbys
$1,379 $1,439 $46 $1,485 Onecall

$1,370 $1,430 $62 $1,492 CanogaCamera
$1,370 $1,430 $61 $1,490 BHPhotoVideo
NA...... $1,430 $65 $1,495 Adorama

At B&H, for another $60 you can get the USM version of 18-55 mm

Also I have a friend that is a very satisfied customer of
http://www.superpixdigital.com who just bought a Digital Rebel with the
18-55 for under $700. He dealt with them a few times and had been
very happy. Too bad they didn't have the 20D in stock.

After considering reputation, price, customer service, and my
humble judgement on professionalism, I made my purchase with
BuyDig. Now I just need to get the right stuff shipped to me on
time. I'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks again for all of your help.
I have been following the threads in the forum for quite a while
trying to figure out where I can find the best deal on a 20D
without being scammed. I'm totally new to digital SLR and decided
to get a kit with 18-55 mm lens while I save up for a 17-85 for a
primary walk around lens. I'm leaving on a trip next Monday so I
need the camera immediately. I'd really appreciate some guidance.

From what I've gathered on this forum, these seem to be pretty
reputable places to buy. Will someone please help confirm?

OneCall
BuyDig
B & H Photo
Adorama
Calumet
CanogaCamera
17th Street

Am I missing any other places where I can compare prices? I found a
nice deal on supercoupon.com with codes for Dell, but after putting
taxes into the equation it wasn't so great afterall.

Is there anyone out there who just bought a 20D after extensive
comparison and can tell me their experience with the vendor?

I've been really wanting to get into digital SLR for quite a while,
getting the 20D will be a dream come true. I imagine I'll be here a
lot more so I can learn from you more experienced folks.

Thanks in advance!!
