Nikon Coolpix 775 Question Followup

Thanks to Patwg, I was able to order the Coolpix 775 for $334.36. I canceled my gateway.com order, saving about $60. Gateway.com has sites in MA, so I had to pay tax. Thanks again, Pat!

Hi Drew
(G) I really do not have any hopes of that date being realistic, and it
does not bother me much. What does bother me is your second point.
I also am hoping for good reviews, but one never knows. I have waited
to this point for a review to happen, and it has not. But that price
was too tempting. The devil made me do it. I could not resist.

Thanks to the alert, I placed my order around 7 AM central. I received
two emails with confirmation, shipping date also of 7/2 and price
of $334.26 This forum is great, and a special thanks for bringing
this to my attention. Tony (my first digital camrea)

Well, it's a game of chicken...do we wait for a review and risk the loss of the 20% discount, or just bite the bullet and hope for the best. I'm just hoping the lens quality is up to par. But it begs the question--given the battery and charger are included, and given that Dell certainly will make a profit--exactly what kind of camera we're going to end up with at that price?

Since I live in Texas (home of Dell), I would have had to pay tax. My shipping date on the 775 from gateway.com is 6/30 and it hasn't changed, since I've had it on preorder since the 6th of this month. I too am a little worried about the camera, but I think that if its not a winner, we can all eBay the camera for substancially more than what we've paid for it!!
A win-win situation!!

thanks for the info! i have to pay tax (in TX) for the camera, bringing the total to $361. that's ok since i missed out on the Gateway discount. $361 is still a great deal! i hope it does turn out to be a good camera, it feels uneasy to buy a camera that i haven't checked out in a store, much less read reviews of. but it is too good a deal to pass up... and i can always return it if i'm unsatisfied.

Gang,

If the review comes out before the camera is shipped and the review is not a positive one, can't we cancel our orders? Regardless, I think we have the option of returning them within a specified amount of time (2 weeks?)

Any thoughts on this?

I trust Nikon, even without a review. I like the 775's specs. I like the price. There is enough information out now about the camera (I am not naive. I, too, would appreciate an indepth review.) for me to trust my instincts. Check out http://www.digitalsecrets.net/ Despite the reviews, I bought the Fuji 1700, my first digital and have never been sorry. However, if the reviews are bad and you haven't gotten your camera by then, almost any decenty store will simply cancel your order. Return in two weeks after using it? I have no idea.

for new items -- within 30 days. refurbs -- within 14 days. not sure if this refers to Dell brand products only, which i doubt. anyway, a link to it appears (online store policies) as you complete your order.

For those that are having trouble finding Dell.com web site with the 775 on there here is what worked real slick for me.

Call the toll free number 1-800-433-9511 then dial ext. 61239. I talked to Chris. He is up to speed on what you want and can get it ordered for you shipped at the door for $334.36.

He also told me that the July 2nd date is not valid. Expect it more for the middle of July. And that's a ok with me so long as I have my order in.

To Erin, Jeremy, Sandeep, and Peter iNova:
Much thanks for your help and info on price, specs, and review of
775. To anyone still interested, Dell Computer is now having a 20%
off sale for a limited time on software and accessories, and they,
too, list the 775. Their standard price is $417.95; with the sale
you can order it for $334 and change plus $4.50 ground shipping.
Basically, $340 for what looks to be a great digicam.

When I ordered mine, I tried browsing through the list of all the digital cameras and it didn't show up; but when I searched for Nikon, sure enough, the 775 came right up. That is how I found and ordered the 775.
Cliff,

Thank you for alerting me to this deal.
I ordered this morning.
The confirmation e-mail said it should ship on July 2nd or before.
Of course they also said that is subject to change.
There was a 2 hour delay processing my credit information due to a
wrong date.
I am really hoping this did not push me to the back of the line or
matter at all.

Jason, what is your order status showing?
Mine says "delayed" (I assume because the item is not in stock yet).

I kept my Gateway order from June 8th intact just in case :)

I clicked on something that stated the 20% would last till July 3rd, but of course subject to change. I cannot see this as anything but a great deal. Phil's review should be out soon and Phil's mention of the 775 in that Newsweek article can only mean good things for moving forward on this deal. Everyone thank you.
Do you know how long this 20% off special will last?

I did it Rawhide.... I did it! $334 from dell... i'm in the process of picking out a cf card. might as well take advantage of the 20% discount!

Wahhooooooooo! Much thanks to Cliff for pointing this out. I've been reading through the forums virtually every day since october. Unfortunately, I was never happy with what was out there, so I waited until the next latest and greatest came out. I figured I could be waiting forever if I didn't pick a camera and buy it. I've never owned one, but for $334, I couldn't refuse. I hope I get the camera by the second or third week of July (although July 2 would be even better!). btw, i am getting free next day delivery! I hope the cam is as good as we all expect it to be!!

I opted for the Microtech 128mb cf w/ usb reader for $120 from dell.com (around $30 discount was applied to the normal $150 cost). After reading through http://www.robgalbraith.com/reports/2001_02_17_compactflash.html I decided it would be the best one to get. Tigerdirect.com is selling it for $99, but I'm not too sure about shipping charges. That doesn't inlude the cf reader either. I also feel more comfortable buying from dell than from a company whom I've never heard of before. Both the camera and cf card should be shipped around July 3!
  • Jeremy, who is very very excited

I've been browsing this forum and dpreview site for months now trying to figure out what digital camera to buy. When the news of the Nikon Coolpix 775 was posted here, I felt it was exactly what I was looking for. I hope I'm right. First I preordered it at Gateway for $359 and now, thanks to this forum, I discovered that Dell has it cheaper, so I preordered it there for $334 and cancelled my gateway order.

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I emailed Nikon asking about the release date of the Nikon Coolpix 775 and their reply is as follows:

"At this time, we expect to begin shipping the Coolpix 775 in the
third week of July."

I was hoping to get it sooner. But I guess we have to wait a bit longer. Can't wait for the review to come out. :)

I can't beleive you finally bought a digital camera! All those months of talk finally paid off! You think I should go for it to? I really like the small size of the S110, I just don't know.

About the card and reader, what exactly does the reader do? You just have the card inside the reader drive and it's connected via USB? That way you won't have to waste the battery from the camera?

To think, I have all those Dell Dollars saved up. Maybe I should take advantage of this!

Hi folks
I try to find Do CP775 has a movie mode?

I dont see any information about this. If they dont have it is canon S115 is a better buy? Almost same price and it has movie mode?
Thanks

Actually, it would be good if Phil gives the 775 a thumbs down tomorrow. Then we'd be able to cancel our orders before they shipped. Now if Phil says it's crap after we'd all received our ordered-on-faith-775s, then we'd be, well, not so happy.

Thanks a bunch to the person who alerted us to this deal! BTW, if you go thru ebates.com, you could knock another ~$6 off the price.

winston
What we really have to hope for is that Phil
Askey doesn't review the camera tomorrow and tell us it's a piece
of crap.
