I'm getting a Coolpix 950 delivered in a few days!

I've always used filters and I have tons of them... they are all 49mm though

So instead of buying all new 28mm filters which seem really hard to find, is there a way I can buy an adapter type thing or a step up to use all my 49mm filters?

I'm so new at this so I don't know what is out there to do this!

I'd appreciate any help :-)

Thank you!

Holly, with digital, most of the filtering you've done up to know with your flim camera is done in the computer using editing software. The only filter you really need for your 950 would be a polarizer, and maybe a UV haze to protect the lens. Even the polarizer can be emulated in the editing process other than reducing reflections. Get a good piece of software and fogedabout filters. As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to step up as far as 28mm to 49mm.
If you need help on the computer end of digital, or with the 950, it's here.

Try these guys:

If you can't find what you want online give them a call. They have a wide selection of stepping rings.

Holly,

I have been using the CoolPix 950 for years and it is my workhorse. I take lots of shots of my hiking group, the Morrisville Ale & Trail Association and I post the images on my website, "Triangle Unfinished Travels". The images are usually reduced to 320 pixels wide and so the higher res cameras aren't necessary for that. However, whenever I want to make 3.5X5" or even 8X10" prints I get acceptable quality from the CP950.

If you are used to using the filters, go for it. I have done some work on infrared photography and needed two adapters to attach the Nikon gelatin filter holder AF-1 to the CP950, 28mm to 37mm (my videocam uses 37mm and I had an assortment of filters and lenses from that), and 37mm to 52mm (AF-1). You should know that the CP950 is uniquely capable of ir photography. Nikon inserted an ir filter into the lens train in subsequent cameras making them insensitive to ir. You may have to start by getting the 28mm to 37mm adapter available from CKC Power ( http://www.ckcpower.com ).

If you want to pursue ir photography, look into Eric Cheng's articles in PEI (that's Photo Electronic Imaging) magazine or check out his website at http://www.echeng.com/digital_photo/infrared.html . He has created some cool looking images. Try it.

Lets just hope I don't get vignetting!

Yeah! That is actually why I bought the 950

I realized a few years ago that it did awesome infrared and I always wanted one since then... I was just waiting for them to come down in price
;)

I've been using IR film and it gets kinda rough when I run out of time to do all the processing and printing at home so I can't wait to try out my 950!

Thanks for the site too... I'll look around :-)
