The 7D, with battery grip and 17-35mm is HUGE..

Anyone have this setup (plus a few lenses and flash) and has an adequate camera bag?

I don't want a back pack; but I do want it to also have an A4-ish size document pocket (travelling docs, maps, magazine).
Cheers

LesP -

My walkaround bag is a Lowepro Toploarder 75 AW. This bag very comfortably holds the 7d with grip and 17-35, 28-75, and 2-3 smallish primes + plently of room for maps, etc.... Or, you can even load it up with the two zooms mentioned and a big prime or zoom (along the bottom -- I've fit in either the 100-400 or 200mm + both TCs).

I use it as a shoulder bag, but it will also work as a belt or backback:

I put it all into a pelican hard case for serious travel transit (but still don't check it!)

Definately. Photos and stated dimensions have fooled me in the past.

If the store can't give you a good price for what you want, then you at least know dims. and size/style that suit you best.

Are you sure about that? I have trouble fitting my Maxxum5 with mounted Sigma 28-200 f3.5-4.5 (72mm old version, backwards to the new ones), a 50 f1.7 and my 5400HS flash. The camera has room for film and small stuff (cf cards, cleaning cloth/bulb etc.) in the frnt but nothing more than that. THough it is part of a great system, the belt and shoulder harness give you almost infinite room.

I bought a Kata waistpack that also has a shoulder strap. My biggest issue was having both a 7D and a Maxxum film 7 ready for shots without having to take a backpack off. Too much time wasted (esp with a wife waiting).

I tried a ton of packs with both cameras. It came down to the Kata and an M-rock bag.

http://www.m-rock.com/
http://www.kata-bags.com/Item.asp?pid=219&cid=63&perentId=4&ProdLine=4

I ended up choosing the Kata bag. It has two outside bags which you can put lenses into and the inside can hold the 7d and a flash, or, as in my case, my film 7 body without lens and the 7d with a lens. And the best part for me was that I could use it almost as a table and change lenses on the go.

Hope this helps.

I use the Tamrac Pro 12. It's a very rugged bag. It holds my 17-35mm, 7d w/ grip, 70-200mm lens, 28-80mm lens, Dimage A1, 5600 HS (D) flash, battery holders, cleaning kit, all cords, even comes with two cool lil pull out pockets that are digitally equipped to hold memory cards and batts.

I got my 7d with VG + 17-35 (mounted) sigma in a LowePro Mini Trekker. In there I also have a couple of hoya filters and a 3600HS(D) flash down one side, 75-300 plus light meter + VG battery pack down the other and down the middle I have cokin holder and filter plus a 28-80, all nicely compartmentalised. In the lid there is a pocket for all the manuals, another for lens cloth and the last has my CF card reader. On the outside is another zipped pocket for maps and sandwiches and another pocket which changes into a tripod holder!

Very nice (and quite cheap bag). I can put up a pic if you want?

I had the same reaction to that post about the Toploader 75, thinking that was what I had and knowing that the 7D with grip will not fit, much less all the lenses mentioned. Then I looked at mine and realized it was the Toploader 70 . It's great without the grip with (for example) the 28-75f2.8 and a 20f2.8, but not a lot more than that.

Well, yes, it can be a bit tight - but I have been using this bag as described the last two months.

Only the camera (with either 17-35 or 28-75, no hood) and one of the other zooms are easily accessable -- the other 1-2 lenses are at the lower level, below the cam, on the other side of a divider.

The outside pocket is a perfect fit for either my "pocket 200" (135mm), or both TCs, or other smallish primes.
My walkaround bag is a Lowepro Toploarder 75 AW. This bag very
comfortably holds the 7d with grip and 17-35, 28-75, and 2-3

gadgetThe specs for the Toploader 70AW cals for 16.5W x 15D x 25.5H cm. I measured my 7D with the VG and a Tamron 24-135 lens and it is 15W x 15H ( body) x 16L ( body+ lens w/o hood ). Considering those dimensions, at least the 7D + VG + lens should fit in the TL 70 bag, lens down. Of course that's a "tight" fit, it should be easier on hte TL 75. I wonder if the Lowepro specs are wrong!

I second the Tamrac Pro 12. It's a bit confusing as they have 2 models called the pro 12. One is about twice the price of the other. I really don't see much difference between the two. Here is the one I have

It is also designed to fit under an airline seat. It does, just barely. It is a bit big and can be heavy when loaded up, but it makes it easier to find things.

Hi

I have the Lowepro 70 AW and 65 AW. Just tried the 7D / Grip / 28-70 G lens... this combo will fit the 70AW but it is a squeeze.... same combo in the 65AW fits perfectly! Plus the 5600hs flash fits the front pocket of either bag. Hope this helps.

I would not suggest the lp 70aw with a vertical grip. Extremely tight. The 75aw with a lens case 3 is nice bag. Normally I use the bag with camera mounted to the 24-105 lens. The inside allows for lp filter case along the side of the camera. Lens bags provides extra storage. Loaded though the this little bag can carry alot. Camera mounted to a tokina 28-80 2.8 lens. Under the camera a 35mm 1.4G lens. The front pocket holds the 5600. The lens bag holds the 80-200 2.8G lens. Gets heavy though at aprrox 10lbs. Kinda blows the hiking design outta of it, but it does provide alot of storage. My orginal bag was tamrac 767 backpack. I still use it on occasion. The size umm wanna go skydiving, but it does fit under the planes seat. I just recently purchase a tamrac 619. Holds the 7d with grip, 9 with grip, many accesories along with the kitchen sink. nice to have every thing in one bag. It alsol fits under the plane seat.

I have a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 200 which takes the body with normally the 24-85 lens, and there's space for a 100-300 lens and a 17-35 lens, plus filters (a CP for each lens), my Archos AV440, and lens cloths and cleaners. The front pocket just takes the 7D manual an a few other papers - but not A4 size.

I've had this case just about since I got the 7D (early Nov) and its gone everywhere with me - Indian Ocean as well as aroud the UK and France. Its primarily a shoulder back, which I wear for comfort looped over my neck and shoulder, and when I feel I want more security, I can loop my belt through it as well - which stops any danger of the slash and grap type of robber.

Hi kiklop - I am looking for a bag like the one you described. Did you get it and do you like it? In the Lowepro link you provided, alternate view 2 shows a very substantial shoulder harness - is the padded shoulder strap they say is included?

Hi, I will get it with my 7D.

But I asked the seller about what is in the package and he told me that the bag is packaged with both shoulder and belt straps.

I will know more next week (at least I hope so) and I will post about it (with some images)
