In macro mode setting on A95, I've thus far been unable to get a sharp focus. For example, i've experimented with trying to photograph my eyeball or my fingerprint. Should I have flash off, should I be at widest angle, should I use a tripod, is there anything I should do to achieve a better focus, am I too close to the subject? As you can see, I'm in the phase where I am experimenting with the various modes. Anyone out there with some A95 photos using macro mode. Thanks in advance.

I have 3 macro pictures in my gallery, feel free to look at them...

Generally using the flash will overexpose the subject, like it happened with my IMG_0006.JPG picture. It is probably suggested to use some sort of tent... And if your shutter speed is too slow, to use a tripod... generally I take them at wide angle, but I presume u could also take them from a bit further away...

Here's some I took about a month ago. I found at wide angle with a tripod and being no closer that about 4-5cm will give excellent results. About 5cm maybe push it to 4 on a good day is as close as you can go.

Like one review of the A95 I read said....The macro mode is sufficient for close ups but when it comes to bugs and flowers you won't get that "in yer face" effect. Need something you can be laying in the durt with the lens like 1cm from the bug, or what ever your shooting.

Here's an example of what the A95 can do in Macro. You will have to play with the distance from your subject ( it's fairly narrow in range ) to get sharp focus.

Macro mode on the A95.

First off the best friend of macro shots is light plenty of it, the flash will be too bright at a close unless your shooting at f8 with a shutter speed like 1/200 or higher and about 8" or more from the subject.

If you want to get the closest to the subject set your camera at the widest lens setting, if you zoom the slightest you will have to move back further from the subject. A good way to tage the minimum distance is to use manual focus, camer at wide and set the focus to the closest range. Then move towards or back from the subject to get that proper focus. When you shoot with a higher F stop like f8 you will get more of the subject in focus.

With the A95 and its swivel LCD is very easy to place the camera on or against something to hold it steady for long exposure shots if you dont want or can use the flash.

Some macros.

I've also started to mess around with using a reverse mounted 50mm lens for almost +7 macros.

Here is an example of using the reverse 50mm lens for macro.
