What's going on here, is Canon pulling some BS on us? I got an email saying that I only submitted one UPC label when I know damn well both of them were sent in. Haven't received my postcard yet, but I did make copies of everything I sent them. We'll see.

I am going to send the copy of the BOX with the Product logo cut off. If they dont like it. I will contact one of the local news station and ask them to help. Its not just $ 20.00 . Because I want to know what happen to the stuff that I send in and I dont want to see anyone getting this BS from them.

Don't forget your state and canon's state attorney general (Consumer Protection Act): I'm about to file a similar complaint-I sent mine by USPS with delivery confirmaiton, and, so far, Canon will or can't admit delivery, regardless of contents. I think something is going on.

I made two canon purchases. One from New York and one from Ohio. Both were Canon rebate items. I was very careful to include everything required in each envelope. About three weeks later I got a postcard that said I forgot to send a copy of my warranty card so I sent another. then a week after that I got another post card about my other rebate that said I forgot to send a copy of my bar codes. This time I talked to three different people and finally they took the bar code number over the phone. About two weeks later I got both checks. It seems to me, whoever is handling Canon rebates gets a cut from unclaimed or denied rebates. Today I am sending another rebate form for 100.00 from a rebel purchased as a gift and I'm incuding a letter with everything itemized and a letter stating I haven't forgot anything, all stapled together. It's starting to look like fraud.

--The Better Business Bureau is another avenue for dealing with companies that are being unreasonable. The BBB submission can e done on-line. If there is something "going on", Canon itself will want to know about it before they get adverse publicity.

I had not sent in the box tops from 2 lenses, and Canon sent me a resubmit postcard, I sent in the missing tops a while ago, and after reading this thread I called the rebate center. They say my check went out in the mail yesterday. Can't wait. (Canon rebate toll free # 877-862-6870

Yes this happened to me. They said that I did not send in the UPC symbol so I called them and told them I had. They approved my rebate and I got my money. Funny thing is, I found the UPC symbol this weekend. :> ) So I really had not sent it in, but they approved it anyway.

According to the terms and conditions, the product cutout doesn't have to be from the top. It can be any of the original places where the product is labeled. I'd give them a call, point out that the toc doesn't require top and tell them your situation and see if they'd take a mid box cut before you go giving it another cut though.

I got a card yesterday and it said that I forgot the body/lens UPC copy. I copied them again and sent off the resubmit today. We'll see.

I had two rebates coming during the last promotion and they denied one (both were in the same envelope) and I had to fight and fight with them to get a lousy $40. I finally sent in a picture of the box with the code cut out. This time, I prequalified online and sent in everything and kept copies. Copies are your friend. I don't know why Canon does this, it just earns them ill will.

Before I mailed the package, I call the toll free number listed on the rebate form, and talked to the CS. This guy seems to be very helpful, so at the end of the conversation, I said "thank" to him as well, as to Canon. Then just by curiosity, I asked him " BTW, are you working for Canon or for a "third party" company. His answer was "I worked for a third party company". So, any BS would probably not from Canon itself, but from this contractor. If they can manage not to send money to some of us, they are the one who gets the money....

Yeh I was denyed too they said I need the d20 off the top of the box. I try to save the box to resell the camera but did send the corner and they show in the directions. It seemed at thought they really did not want to pay the rebate. You would think the serial number and sales receipts and warrenty card would be enought. The girl I talked to was not very helpfull or plesant. She might not work for Canon but it was NOT a good experience.

I hate rebates just for this reason. This is why they do rebates instead of discounts or "sales". At least 50% of people won't submit the rebate stuff at all for various reasons. Another % will do it incorrectly. They COUNT on not having to return a lot of this money, and they guarantee it to themselves by making the process as difficult as they can.

It's not exclusive to Canon -- unless it's an instant rebate, they all do it.

I won't be sending my rebates in. To me it's not worth cutting up my boxes for. If I ever want to resell my lenses or camera to fund different ones, I'll get the money back then by being able to sell items in good conditions with all original packing material and an intact box.

How long did it take to get the card? I just checked mine online, started the process via the internet as they suggested, shows the record, but says waiting on the materials, which I mailed over 4 weeks ago... I think I'll call tomorrow...

Excellent idea! I kind of go overboard when I submit rebates because I think they like to scam people way too often. I start by getting a blank sheet of paper. I tape a copy of the rebate form, I tape copies of the UPC and anything else they ask for all down to this paper(and I mean TAPE it down good). So there is no way any of it can fall out onto the floor and "whoops you didnt enclose bla blah". I then Circle and draw an arrow to each peice and label it. I sign it and also write the date of mailing. I of course then scan this whole document for backup purposes. By doing all this I try to make it look to them that I have covered every base so they dont get any ideas. They are playing a game with me right now on my $200 rebate for lenses. I submitted 2 different rebates. 1 for the 580 ex flash for $20 and 1 for lenses at $200. I got my flash rebate a couple of weeks ago but my lense rebate still shows "processing". These were mailed the same day. Why does it take weeks and weeks longer to process a rebate that is mailed the same day?? hmmmmmmm. Scammers
