FWIW

The same rumour about the Canon D-Rebel update, except that some guy actually saw an entry in the inventory of a camera company to confirm the D-Rebel update. I am not surprised by the upcoming Pentax 12 MP camera in view of the Nikon D2X. Pentax, Nikon and Minolta are all reliant on the Sony sensors. However, I am disappointed because I am not quite confident about its high ISO performance (Nikon D2X only spec up to ISO 800.)

They have both the words LX and Pro in the description.
We all know this is exactly what everyone wants to see,
so you can bank on the fact that Pentax won't do it.

I don't think they've ever claimed any of their cameras to be "Pro".

Might as well just throw an "IS" in there too to really complete it!

modify or delete the entry. Apparantly anyone can.

The "DLX" throws me straight into the cynical catagory. I mean, if you were going to make up a name for a pro line Pentax DSLR, what would you call it? The DLX. That's not, however, what Pentax would call it. As great as the LX was, I could not imagine Pentax reviving the name for a pro dslr.

And yes, when has the last time Pentax put "pro" on anything?

Also a bit of a monster at 36 ounces (1000g), twice the weight of a DS!

Not much in keeping with the "smaller is better" principles Pentax seem to have right now.

Would give it a miss even if it was real :o)

Well even if it were true it wouldn't be called an DLX anyway. The LX nomenclature was used because it was the 60th anniversary of Pentax so the Roman numerals LX were used.

Now it would be called the D LXXXV as it is 85 years(or 25 years longer than the LX first appeared) approx since Pentax started. Maybe the *ist D LXXXV? If they had a name like that there wouldn't be any room left on the camera for anything else. Maybe Pentax will wait until 2010 for their 90th anniversary and call it the *ist DXC just to keep the numbers short and have more impact. Hmmm Pentax *ist DXC, sort of has a good ring to it. :-)

I agree. Very skeptical.

Given the examples of istD and istDS, The only sensible names are

istD2
istDX

or even

MZD
PZD
LXD

but never

DLX.

But keep in mind that apparently anyone can modify this. It has
been suggested that this is a hoax.

Joe
It's true. But they got the name wrong. Pentax would NEVER use that naming convention.

The new camera is called:

ast F#hUn TFd

New naming convention adapted by Pentax:

ast > > currently our last model

TFd > > True Full Frame, and NOT fake Full Frame (d is for digital)

F#hUn > > that's how the engineer's 3 year old son pronounces "FUN"

There you have it, in plain Engineering-Japanese-English:
"Pentax Latest Model a Fun, Full Frame digital camera"

Also in related news:

Pentax Website Engineers in Japan are trying to Create a new HTML standard to be able to use the name of their new camera on their website without crashing IE.

D2X has iso1600 and 3200, but it must be enabled by user. First samples from D2X at iso800 on japanese page are very encouraging.

Adding Santa, what weight would you give him?

It is funny. We can all agree it is a hoax. Nevertheless, I'm pretty shure nearly all of us got a little upset and started to think "12MP hmm...", then slowed down while contemplating over the name and the weight. Funny idea though, I hope it will become true some day (no. not the weight).

Jonas
I've heard of Santa, is he on that database ?
Not yet, but mybe we can manage to add him..
It would be easy.
That's why you can't trust that site.
