The shop were I bought the QV3500 convinced me to take out a 3 year warranty for £ 85 which covers accidental damage and guarantees new for old . In 2 and a half years I may encourage my son who will be 7 by then to take up photography as a hobby .

The 4000 has the focus assist light which is obviously an improvement . It still uses the same lens and the ccd is the same size . A question I asked in the Sony forum when the S85 was announced with this ccd was will the photosensitive area on the 4m ccd actually be less .

Each element needs contacts which occupy non photosensitive dead space . Pondria replied that if the size of the ccd stays the same and contacts stay constant the actual photosensitive area will decrease . I don't think we know yet if and if so by how much the actual photosensitive area has increased . Is it going to be a quantum leap ?

We definitely know the elements are smaller and this may actually increase blooming / noise .

I'm happy to use the 3500 for the next 2 or so years until the kid kicks it down the stairs and they change it for the latest 50 zillion pixel model .

I also recently purchased the 3500EX. I really like the camera and I am happy with the resolution. Basically, I am shooting and printing better shots with this camera than I ever did with my old Canon point and shoot 35mm camera.

However, for me, if I were to ask for something to be added to the 3500EX I would want ISO50 and the focus assist light.

I'm not very knowledgeable about the guts of these cameras, but can ISO 50 be added with firmware? How about adding a fucntion where the flash could be left in the "on" position momentarily to illuminate the general area one wishes to photograph? This would definitely allow the camera to focus better, albeit up to about 9 feet in low light situations, I think.

Anyone have ideas??

A tip for low light focus. Shine a light on the subject or find a subject at the same distance that autofocus can lock onto, half-press for autofocus, switch to manual focus and don't adjust the focus, release the shutter, the

light (if used) can then be switched off and you can then take a series of pictures at this distance, all in focus. A bonus is the much quicker shutter response im manual focus mode.

One thing that seems still superior in the 3500ex is the sensitivity levels, the 4000 has 100,200 and 400 while the 3500 has 100,180,300 and 500, I am surprised they didnt put iso 50 on the new model but it would seem they are moving in the right direction with the focus assist light and I really like the knobs on top to adjust mode and aperture although this is really no big deal......I do'nt really see anything thats making me regret getting the 3500, I would expect that by the time we wear our cameras out there will be super cool features and capabilities that will really be worth a upgrade. My 3500 does an excellent job approximating 35mm film which is all I ask at this point, and I really dont have the storage space for pics much bigger that 1.3 megs a piece, I also dont have dsl access yet which has made it a major pain uploading images as it is. So hopefully when the 20 megapixel cameras come out I will also have a 1000 gig harddrive and broadband access. Scott
