I've read about devices that plug into a receptacle in (some) airline seats that will power a laptop computer. Is there any such device that will work with the P2000? I'll be taking it on several very long flights and I'd like to have use of the P2000 along the way. What's available, and how can I determine if a particular airline or plane will support it?

I thought it was only going to be a wireless connection? I am interested in the answer to this question too.

I think he's talking about the power outlets that airline seats in business and first class have, not internet access.

I bought a airline plug to cigarette lighter adapter and a 12v inverter, not the most efficient energy-wise but I can recharge or use any electronic up to 100w.

Hi Mike,

I spend a lot of time on planes. For years I carried a dedicated, built-for-purpose power unit designed to work with the airline power outlets. It had a bunch of tips to allow it to be used with various devices from a laptop to whatever, mostly laptop. It was fiddly, and only good for that one environment. I was burdened with it in my luggage everywhere I went but could only use it on the flights.

I've now converted to a universal solution. Bought a Radio Shack cigarette lighter inverter power unit that puts out 110 AC. I also bought an adapter that plugs into the airline power and provides the barrel connector the inverter needs to see. Now I have 110 wherever I go that has some kind of mobile power...airplane, car, whatever. And anything I own can be powered by it, which includes laptop, cell charter, charger for Gmini 220, camera battery chargers, etc.

You probably know this, but I'll mention that you generally only get that power outlet in Business or First Class. There are plenty of those seats that don't have the power, depending on the routes you travel.

Rick Wallace

Hi Fredy,

Yep. There are tons of these inverter devices out there. Office Depot, Good Guys, you name it. I chose the Radio Shack because it had a better power capacity and actually has a little fan of some sort inside it, and it is (for its capacity) relatively small to carry in the photo bag or computer bag.

I like the Rat Shack AC power inverter idea, but I ordered a dedicated In-Seat (airline seat outlet) to 5 volt, which will power the P-2000, about $70 from http://lindelectronics.com/

They claim the airline seat outlet (15 volts) has a 70 watt limit and is supposed to cut out if that is exceeded.

I am aware of the limit on In-Seat outlet availabiltiy, but when available, I'd like to have use of it.

Lot of good response to my question. Thanks. I appreciate it.

Good suggestion. I'm going from ORD to Bangkok and according to the Guru I have power, but in checking I found that there had been an equipment change with seat reassignments, so I was able to undo a change I didn't like. Thanks for the tip.

The only tip information Targus lists is for particular models. For what it's worth, the P-2000 has an OD of 4.0 mm and in ID of 1.4 mm.
