Battery life using Microdrive

I'm thinking about buying a 2GB microdrive for my D70.

How much less battery life will I get using this as opposed to my CF?

Thanks

I have some 1GB micro-drives and some 1GB flash cards - I never noticed the battery discharging any quicker with the micro-drives. The battery performance is pretty amazing on both the D100 and the D70 - it just seems to go on for ever, I've never managed to exhaust a battery in a single days shooting!!!

Sorry I couldn't comment on 2GB drives - these are too big for me - too much data to loose if something goes wrong.

Hi Stacy,

I am using a 2 Gb Microdrive, a 4Gb Microdrive and several CF cards. Whatevec i use i always seem to be able to make 400+ photo's before i see a drop in battery levels. My conclusion is not to worry about battery usage.
And if you want to be sure, get a spare battery!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how fast are the microdrives? I take a lot of sports shots in continuous mode - will the number I can take before the buffer tops out be lower with a microdrive? How much longer will it take to 'recover' once the buffer fills?

I use a 2G microdrive (shows 196 shots available in RAW only, but I have had more than 300). Like the other posters, I have not noticed any drop in the life of the battery. I also can last a day comfortably unless I use the flash a lot. Now there's a real battery drainer.

I have the Hitachi 2GB microdrive and love it. You won't notice any more drain in battery as others have already said.

I may need to put the battery to a "triathalon" test using my 2GB MD, 70-200 VR and onboard flash.

In seriousness, I haven't noted a decrease in using my MD. I also keep a spare in my bag.

I have a couple of 1G microdrives, but mostly use a Lexar 80X 2GB CF. When I first bought the Lexar, I compared the speeds. As I recall, in the large / medium compression (Standard? I don't have the camera in front of me), it would shoot 12 shots at 3/sec before it slowed down. With the microdrive, it would shoot 9. Recovery times were correspondingly slower. Until I got the 80X CF I was perfectly happy. I almost never take more than about 4 or 5 shots in a row, and not even that most of the time.
