Does anyone know of a fitted case for the D1 and the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 D ED IF AF-S attached? I have a backpack that holds all of my camera equipment but I am looking for something that would protect the D1 and lens on a short outing.

BTW, I too am axiously awaiting the D1x

Thanks--John

Several of the Pelican cases will work. I have one that I have used for the D1 and it provides max protection. Unfortunately I loaned it to my daughter to carry an S1 on a trip and I won't get it back until Friday. Otherwise, I would be able to look at it and tell you the model number. Contact me later if you need the number and/or a jpeg of it.

The case is rather heavy, but is really strong. It may be too bulky for hiking, but works great in a car or for shipping.

Hello John

Look for the smaller Pelican cases, they are waterproof and drop proof and can be had with pick and pluck or padded deviders,. and come in various colours. Or I use a small LightWare case to carry mine in.

I have a D1 and a number of Nikon lenses, which I carry at different times in a range of different combinations. I have found the Kinesis system to suit this need very well.

If you only need to carry a D1(x/h) and a short zoom, the case for you is the Kinesis C500, which will hold a D1 and a 17-35/2.8 with lens hood in position for shooting or a 28-70/2.8 with reversed hood. Check out:

I highly recommend adding the Kinesis Y515 padded shoulder strap:

Richard Stum, who designs and manufactures these bags, is a backpacking photographer himself and has put a lot of thought into what actually works in the field. Highly recommended...

John,

I have just such a case for my camera. It is the Tamrac 519 zoom case. It is specifically made for the larger Pro cameras. I have a Nikon F5 with an attached 28-80 f2.8 with hood attached that will fit into it nicely. It has a front pouch for accessories. The thing I love about this case is that you can add side pockets to the case if you want to carry additional lenses or a flash (such as what I do with mine). It comes with a shoulder strap. You can also get a backpak strap. I use this when I ride my bike to shoot. I got mine from B&H photo for under $50.00. The additional cases, the medium lens case works great with the flash, cost about $8 to $15.00 each. Two, one on each side, carries everything I need to an excursion.
Check it out at their web site.

John,

I made a mistake on the lens case that I use for my flash. I have a Large case. They make an extra large which is great for a 80-200 f2.8 which I use also.

John,

I hope that you ordered the Top Load zoom Pro AW, as I beleive it is the only one that will fit a body that size. I have one, and it will hold my D1 with 80-200 2.8 attached. The big difference with most of these bags is the depth or the measurment that equates to the camera body height. The TLZ Pro AW WILL hold the larger bodies ie, D1, F5, F100 etc.
Thanks to all for your help. I decided to try the LowePro and
ordered one from B&H today.
