When I am working with photoshop CS, for no apparent reason I will be automatically hooked to the internet photoshop help file. I can not close this page. Everytime I click to close it instantly reappears and I have to exit photoshop. Has my computer been taken over by the devil!!!!!

Yes if you consider Adobe to be the devil. It has been so long since I disabled this provision that I do not recall how to do it, but you can disable it from one of the preferences files, I believe. Adobe always said it was updating my files, but I could not have that much new information for them. The suspicion is that they download what you do with Photoshop incase someone has found some new and unique ways of using PS. gc

This happens occasionally to me also. No luck so far in disabling whatever "feature" is causing it. Hope someone has an answer.

In Photoshop 7:

Edit> Preferences> Adobe Online

A window will pop up giving you the choices of Never, Once a Day...Week....or Month.

Hope this helps.

This has been happening to me for awhile. Every now and then, it gets really persistent and opens about a dozen web browsers at the same time.

A while back, I searched for a solution, but didn't have any luck. Of course, I didn't really know how to phrase my search keywords. I think I searched for help on "Help." After reading your post, I now realize we should search for help on "possession." ;)

Northernlights and Cliffhanger, I've noticed it seems to happen when I'm using my Wacom tablet. Do you happen to be using a tablet too? Also, I don't recall this happening before I made Mozilla Firefox my default browser. Any similarities?

Alan, do you happen to know the equivalent "Adobe Online" command in CS? And are you and GCam sure we're talking about the same problem? I remember PS7 connecting to the Internet, but it never opened up its help file in a browser.

I don't use CS, but what Alan describes is what I was referring to. I did this over two years ago, and I have never had the problem since. It was most irritating. gc

you might want to run a scan just in case....

I've seen this happen with the help file as well. It doesn't go to the internet, but pop's up Photoshop's help file in a web browser. It's the same thing as when I go to the Help menu and click Photoshop Help.

For me it typically occurs when I have a dialog up and I hit a key by accident. I don't know what key it is and it doesn't always happen. I've had some luck if I ignore the help browser, go back to the dialog that's up and hit the escape key (instead of trying to use the dialog) and then close the help browser.

I just switched to firefox as well so I can't say for sure if it's a problem that's gone away as a result. I am not using a tablet though.

I have the same problem with the PS7 help. I'm pretty sure this is a PS bug, not a virus. I checked my preferences for Adobe Online and it is set to 'never'.

I solved the problem by setting my firewall to block PS from getting online. Now I can't get into the Help file directly from within PS, so I had to create a shortcut on my desktop.

I use zone alarm firewall, and have set it up so that it blocks PS from connecting to the internet.
