Hello all you D1x'ers in waiting,

as a bit of light entertainment, I thought I might start this thread to ask the following question :

what are you looking forward to using your D1x for?

Personally, I'm going to use the minimum 125 ISO rating to photograph waterfalls in Derbyshire & South Yorkshire here in England... Inspired largely by the superb work of Paul Caldwell who's work is profiled on Uwe's Digital Outback Photo site...

http://www.outbackphoto.com/nature/2001/20010220_creeks.html

I live in Sheffield, where there is a very good dry ski slope - I have a project in mind to take action shots of Snow Boarders "catching some air". This is where I will test the speed limits of the D1x for action photography.

Derbyshire includes Stanage Edge, the mecca of gritstone rock climbing in the UK. I intend to take many shots of this beautiful crag, and get some dramatic shots of rock climbers exploring their mental and physical limits...

I work in Peterborough, near Rutland Water. Recently, the first known Osprey chick in 150 years hatched at this nature reserve... I hope to spend some time trying to spot and photograph the Osprey there.

My 7 year old daughter Amber has been learning to ride a horse for the last couple of years. As well as photographing her in action taking jumps and hacking through the woods, I look forward to following her career as it develops...

Having three kids will give me all the opportunity I need to continue developing my skills in candid portrait photography.

Finally (for now) I have a day's Land Rover off-roading course booked in the grounds of the historic Eastnor Castle early next month. I have the permission of the estate to spend a day roaming the 5000+ acres of grounds taking photographs the day before. Now that's what I call relaxation!

So what projects do YOU have in mind for this awesome new camera?

Brian,

Great Idea for a thread. Gets our minds, here in the US off of the delay of the D1x.

Well where to start. I've been shooting film for a number of years professionally. I'm finally making the jump to digital with the release of the D1x. First and formost will be getting my portraits, seniors, and weddings all digital. Being able to get instant feedback on an event will be great!!

I have a few new things up my sleeve for the new marvel. I want to shoot events and get instant orders for photographs instead of waiting.

But the most enjoyment I will get will be pursuing my love of nature and wildlife photography. Not have to worry if I want to take a thousand photographs in a weekend and have to pay for the film and developing.
This has what has kept me from shooting as much as I would love to.
Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Mike.... ;^)-

Well, I will shoot about everything imaginable, except landscapes.

Street photography, product, people/portraits (no weddings!), travel, etc.

Should be a blast. I only wish we could finally get rid of that darned focal multiplier.

Hello Everybody/Anybody

I think I will follow through with an idea I have been gestating over the past few weeks, and it is this......

There is a beautifull very old railway bridge which goes over the Thames river here in London Ontario. It sits almost but not quite directly behind the building housing my studio which used to be the old London Port Stanley railway building.

In fact I keep my mural art work in a huge walk in safe that still has the smaller London port Stanley Railway money safe trapped inside it. The smaller, but still big too me looking at it, weighs a ton and was purposely trapped in the main safe when they poured the concrete. So in essence its forever trapped inside into the main very large walk in safe.

But to get back to my D1x plan I will to pick it up when my dealer calls in the next few days and take it directly to the railway bridge, behind my studio and with the D1X box still unopened very unceremoniously pitch it into the slow flowing summer brownThames river.

It will be an enourmous releif and very gratifying to do this after my six months of endless waiting. Then I will simply pick up a cheap consumer grade camera for $300 to $500 and enjoy myself creating my murals without the need of any expensive pro smo gear.

That's my current plan at this moment to deal with my frustration over this D1X fiasco.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to let it loose.

Stephen

Hey Stephen,

You were calling for patience in another thread, don't tell me it's finally getting to you .

Hello carol

Yeh... its getting to me just a little, I paid fully for my camera the first week of January and waited for PMA to see what was coming out. I was to chose at that point but the deal was struck and paid for a full six months agoI am sure that I am the only one in the world to have paid for the D1x in full six months ago, a month before it was even announced.

I think something more must be going on, like all the cameras having to be shipped back to Japan for the actual fix. I say that as why could they not simply release all those fixed by the local Nikon repair boys as soon as they are fixed. But to have no word and endless promises of delivery from the dealers speaks of mass confusion in Nikon world.

I have patience, but it is not endless and now seems to be running out.
