Hi everybody

I'm new to this forum and also new to digital photography. I'just bought a Canon G6, and I'm happy with the camera. But I can not say the same about the software.

When It comes to download raw images to the computer the software that came with the camera is completely unusable. After the first or second image the program fails and becomes unstable, when the windows XP wizard downloads them very fast.

I have also problems to process raw images. The program doesn't allow to set a color profile to the image.

Does anybody have the same problems?

Thank you

Manuel

Welcome to the forum.

Suggest you uninstall ZoomBrowser and re install. If it still will not work, you might try the trial version of BreezeBrowser to do your RAW conversions. I take it you are using V5, which came with the G6, not some earlier version? Although I no longer use the program, it still resides on my hard drive and had no instability problems.

Not sure what you mean by attaching a colour profile. As far as I recall you can adjust a lot of factors before saving it as a jpeg, 8 bit or 16 bit tiff file.

Manuel, welcome to the Canon forum and I hope you like your new G6.

Zoombrowser's inability to assign a color space such as Adobe RGB is one of the main reasons I use Adobe Camera Raw exclusively for my G6 raw conversions. Another is that Zoombrowswer screws up the EXIF data in my conversions. But ACR not only maintains the key EXIF data, it also fixes the ISO data, inserting it in the proper EXIF space the way it should be right out of the camera.

So I suggest you use either ACR or Breezebrowser. ACR is available as a free plug-in if you have Photoshop CS and I believe Photoshop Elements as well. You might want to give it a try.

Happy shooting!

Thank you both.

I've already downloaded and installed the ACR upgrade. As Adobe uses to be it is easier, more user-friendly and works just fine. Thank you Pat.

I've also uninstalled all the canon utilities and reinstalled them, but in english this time (at first I intalled them in spanish, my mother language), and I still have the same errors. Maybe my computer?

Is there any utility I can use to download images to the hard drive appart from the Windows XP wizard?

Thank you again.

Hi Manual

I am sure there are many download utilities, but you could try the 30 day trial of Downloader Pro found here: http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm

Hope that works for you.

Also. why not get a USB card reader? They are cheap and much faster than downloading from your camera. Since RAW files are so big I transfer the contents of my cards, as I fill them to a portable 40GB Vosonic hard disk which can hold around 4000 images. Later, at home I download them on to my PC using Windows Explorer and a USB cable.

That is what I intend to do. To buy a card reader. But in the meantime... I'll try that downloader you say. Thank you again.
