==Challenge== spider web

Don't know why that won't display. Here's the url (guess you'll need to copy and paste into the address, then remove " marks; sorry):

"

"

I would sure like to see your best shot of the spider web. And any
suggestion how to take it so it would look great. I guess
background is very important. I am going to try and take another
try with a flash later today.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi there,

I sat in my car in the morning and looked through the glass and saw
a perfect situoation to take a photo of a spider web. I was in the
way to work, but I just had to jump back into the house and bring
out my F505V. It's hard to take a photo of this cuz it is so thin.
I didn't have a right background, but here is what I got:

Nice.

So would I--I keep trying, but keep getting the background in focus instead of the web. Trouble is, I can't focus my own eyes well enough to check if the shot is in focus. Irritating, because there are some spectacularly coloured spiders here--Neon Nasties....

Vision is the art of seeing the invisible.

Very interesting to see that cottonwood fuzzies on it. I guess those are supposed to mislead insects as a flower and fly right into it? Nice shot!
Found this one on the door of the kids playhouse. My daughter was
so excited to find it because she knew I had been looking for one
to try to capture on my new digital camera. Had lots of cottonwood
fuzzies on it, camera focused more on the spider.

Without knowing the camera you are using, I would like to offer you these suggestions:

Autofocus:

1. Focus at the spider by half-pressing the shutter (I don't know about just web alone, but I think web without a spider is harder to autofocus.) This means giving the camera about a second on the spider with minimal movement.

2. Compose your photo, without releasing the shutter, or changing the distance between the spider and the camera.
3. Press the shutter.

I found it sometimes easier to manual focus when doing macro shots, or simply at situations where autofocus have hard time do. One trick is that I use in macro shots is to pre-set the focus to manual, and focus just by moving my camera. That might be something you can try if all others fail...

Hope these suggestions help. Good luck and have fun shooting!
