I have a couple of questions about these products.

From the recent review of the Nixvue, it appears that the Nixvue allows you to verify the transfer from your media to the Nixvue box.

Does the Image Bank have a similar feature to verify the write?
I would like other opinions on whether this is a critical function.

I believe the Nixvue automatically senses if you use 110 or 220. Given the power supply is in the adapter for the Image Bank, would I just buy a 220 adapter for oversees travel? (I guess I would buy it for the battery pack and always run it off the battery pack when traveling - I can also use the same battery pack to run my camera)

The overall travel weight will be a very important factor in my purchase. In order to recharge the Nixvue battery, do you really need the cradle? Since I can use the battery pack for my camera, I am not including the battery pack weight in my decision.

Thanks for the info!

I know a 12v car charger is in the making. At this time though the cradle is neccessary for the Nixvue.

Nixvue put together a good product only they really screwed-up with the cradle.

I Have the same issue as you, I will be traveling for a while and need something small and light. The cradle is great if you use it like a palm pilot - daily downloads from work. But most people seem interested in this type of product for travel, where you will have to recharge on the go.

The cradle is just to big to consider taking. 12V doesn't help if you aren't going in your own car (i.e. plane, train, bus, etc.).

It looks like:

1. Digital Wallet isn't realiable.
2. The image bank doesn't have batteries & doesn't support MS
3. Nixvue has a silly dock. Maybe possible to hack your own power connector.
4. Terripin Mine looks like a winner, but when will it release?

What a pain. Four manufacturers and nobody can get it right (Terripin has it right but its currently vaporware). How hard is it to listen to these forums and make a product that people want: stable, reliable, battery powered, and SMALL INCLUDING ALL REQUIRED ACCESSORIES.

What did you mean when you say Image Bank does not support MS?

I am thinking that I could use a MAHA battery pack as an emergency power source for my camera and to drive the Image Bank. This would give me added flexibility and I could eliminate 4 AA NiMH batteries.

Oliver,

I have just received and Image bank direct from Sima to my address in the UK. The unit comes with a Power supply that automatically senses 110 to 240 volt 50 to 60 hz. So no problem. Although the unit does not have batteries it is easy enough to make a unit. I have just tested the unit and it is terrific. I used the car cigar lighter socket to drive the unit as it comes with this adapter as well as the 110 to 240 unit.

Yeah great looking product. Don't mean to say they are totally vaporware, they've showed their stuff at shows, and say they will release "Summer 2001", likely too late for me - but I'm hoping.

The device is similar in size to the digital wallet, but uses embedded Linux as it's OS, and gets lots of benefits because of it (hello stability & already well tested software components). They refer to it as a universal smart storage product. Not only can it read and write from flash cards, but it is also an MP3 recorder/player.

Moreover, it has an network file server and synchronization software so that you can connect it to a Ethernet network (it has Ethernet as well as USB), and transfer files to/from the device. The synchronization software when attached to a network can automatically backup your pictures to a remote server, so that if your Mine gets lost or stolen you still have backups.

It, like the nixvue, can playback pictures and MPEG videos to a TV.

But, even after all of these great features, here's the kicker: all connections (Ethernet, usb, video out, power, PCMCIA) are all built in - no goofball docking plug/base.
