"New 10D" - $1000 vs. "New 20D - $1300"

more speed of operation (fps, wake up, and instant on)
faster CF write times
better high iso noise performance
wider range of lenses to choose from
a few more MP to use when cropping
more accurate TTL flash--TTL-2 is clearly better but not perfect
better AI Servo mode for tracking moving objects

are those things worth $300. more cost to you? If not, take the 10D--it is still a fine camera--though slow by today's standards.

is really that tight then buy the 10D. Otherwise for a $300 difference I wouldn't even blink before I hit the buy key on a 20D.

Now, if you were looking at a mint condition used 10D for $750 to $800 (I've actually seen them at this price), then you may want to seriously think it over.

Just think, if every key-stroke was a shutter-press we would all be pros by now...
 
I use both the 10D and 20D all the time, and enjoy the use of and images from both very much. The most noticeable difference between them in my usual use is the lower ISO noise (at higher ISO settings) that the 20D will give.

To me that would be worth $300, if I had to choose.

I just " put my money where my mouth is" and took delivery of a 20D last evening. My 10D has been a WONDERFUL tool but when a friend offered me a fair price I paid the difference and got a 20D. I only had less than 7000 images on the 10D and certainly it was good for many thousands more, but I think that I am going to be very happy with the new camera.

FWIW, I bought the 20D from B&H for $1429 including shipping and NO tax. I also added the battery grip and a Op-Tech Pro strap (shipping free). B&H shipped the same day and I had it in three days. Excellent service and good price from a VERY reliable source.

The CF card writing speed and buffer is enough to justify the 20D over the 10D. I hit the 9 RAW buffer on the 10D all the time.

Throw in 'less noise at high ISO' and it is a HUUUGGGEEE freebee (it is like turning your f4 lenses into f2.8 - i feel like it is cheating).

The camera interface being much faster is a bonus, along with a bunch of other pluses.

I went from a 300D, to 10D, to 2 x 20D. I have sold the 10D and cannot get rid of the 300D. After owning the 20D, i won't use the 300D.

but thats just me. i 100% support getting the 20D over the 10D or 300D at any cost.

you might regret not spending the extra $300. I bought a 10D three months ago, and was very happy with it. Luckilly, I have someone who'll give me the same price, near enough, as I paid for it, so I upgraded to a 20D, and feel it's worth the extra money. Of course, it's a personal thing. I do a lot of low lght stuf,so the low noise at higher ISOs was the clincher, but I love the near instant start up, and, of course, the extra resolution. I could go back to the 10D easily - a very solid, dependable camera, but after I got it, I did spend a lot of my time kicking myself that I didn;t get a 20D in the first place (it would have saved a lot of wrangling), but that said, I got it £100 cheaper than if I'd have bought it off the block (Christmas sales).

I opted for the 20D. Of course this is kind of a silly question, if you do a search you will find the following:
1.) Just about everyone that purchased the 20D will recommend the 20D

2.) A smaller percentage of users that have the 10D will recommend the 10D
