Buy D2H from Cameta?

Cameta is a good outfit but that said I don't know why anyone would want to buy a demo camera when you can get a brand new one with a USA Nikon warranty from Ace Camera in Virginia for $1899. I have seen the Cameta camera demo's bid up over $2000 and many others that went for $1750 up to $1875. You might want to call Mo at 703-430-333 and see if he has any more in stock. I just bought mine this last Thursday and he had sold out at that time but suspect he will have gotten more in by now.

If you can win an Ebay bid on a Cameta auction for under $1700 then I would say go for it. If you have to pay more than that I would spend a few extra bucks and buy it from ACE or even B&H ($1999).

Hope this helps,

Gordon

I agree. I'm probably going to buy the New over the Demo, just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the advise.

Why buy a refurb for near the cost of new? With the new cam you'll get a Nikon warranty (has to be worth a few hundred). Most important, their (cameta) retuen policy would be questionable. B&H is a fine retailer with a liberal return policy. Ebay is a great place to sell your old gear in excahage for Postal Money Orders and that's all.
I'm thinking of buying a D2H from Cameta camera. I know a few
people have bought from them. How was the service?

If I were looking at buying from Cameta I would call them and see what their over the phone price is. That way you do not get tangled up in ebayers doing stupid things.

I think I saw a post here from someone that bypassed abya and got "the right" price, but I could be wrong.

Neil

Just got my D2h from cameta, and previously got my 17-55 from them this summer. I really enjoy dealing with Cameta MUCH more than either B&H or Adorama. Cameta gives you more personal attention, know about the products they sell, and have been honest, helpful, and friendly with me on the phone. I'll be giving them as much of my business as possible.

--They good but there are 2 differant D2H that they sale one is
brang new with Nikon USA warranty and other is "Demo" but in
reality is Nikon refurbished cameras that Cametta covers with own 1
year warranty.
Mironv
My Demo D2h from them did come sealed inside a "Nikon Reconditioned" box. They stressed on the phone that these have never been owned by a customer. Mine had 1500 exposures on it which seems about right for a demo D2h - too few for a customer to have owned it (before I got it, I thought that was a lot, but now that I've experienced its speed, it seems about right for a demo and no customer could have had the restraint to send this machine back after so few exposures!)

--One thing I can't understund is that "refurbish" status is regulated by state and federal law yet they advertise it as Demo and clearly sale refurbish. Some stores in NJ have paid bid fines for scams like this so is Cametta have special deal with Nikon or state law makers?Another thing is B&H PHOTO in NY don't have any D2H as demos so where Cameta is getting so many Demos is Nikon start selling D2H dood to door so they produce that many units?Other stores keep one untill almost forever. On another hand if this units are costumers returns and checked by Nikon ( witch I douted since there are special centers for repacking operated by same peopels that run B&H and use iligal emigrants to clean and repack electronics) and fix metering issue then mabye this demos better than new?

Cameta did say that the "demo" cameras were all inspected and repacked by Nikon which is where the refurbished box is coming from. They stressed that these cameras have NOT EVER been owned by a consumer.

Just called them to pay for a D2H. About the same as others. A few sell ups to refuse (batt & memory card), extended warranty pitch to turn down, paid for the thing and I was on my way. Had to refuse the extended warranty pitch three times before the lady gave up.

I actually prefer the web order process at B&H better but oh well, the things we have to deal with for a few extra dollars saved!
