Iomega FotoShow

Tom,

I use FotoShow, and it works well for what I want it to do (storage to ZIP disks while traveling).

It is a little big and bulky, and for viewing photos on TV it is slow. But otherwise, I would recommend it.

I am very happy with Fotoshow.

Downloading SM cards to it is a snap. I like being able to make more than one back-up of the photos while on the road by downloading to multiple ZIP disks. I just shot over 500 photos this weekend with 2-64MB cards. Could not have done it without the Fotoshow.

I have the optional car power adapter, so being near a power outlet is not a necessity. The optional carry case was so nifty that I keep my 2100 with extra batteries, SM cards, B300 and other lenses in it. These two items were free as part of a promotional offer - perhaps they will repeat it again.

It is just passable as a tool for viewing photos on a TV. Very slow. It can be used as a Powerpoint presentation tool.

There are other new tools for storage on the road. Make sure that you check them out. (Here and Steve's Digicams) There is no one perfect solution for everyone.

Tom,

Grudgingly, I give it its due: it allows you to download pictures from a card to a ZIP disk while on the road. It has workd reliably and allowed me to bring back a gigabyte of pictures without having to worry too much.

For my extended rant on what I feel are design errors, see:

But for bringing back pictures, it is cost effective.

Thanks everyone! Special thanks to Fritz for the valuable links. Looks like FotoShow is a winner for storage. Should have asked before, but I am also wondering if the FotoShow works OK as "just" a ZIP drive when connected to a computer. Especially interested in its speed. I now have an older 100 MB ZIP model, which is terribly slow. Thanks again!!

It works quite well as a USB ZIP drive. I am running Win ME and can just plug/unplug with no problems at all. It sees the drive and mounts it. No reboot needed.

I also used to have the 100MB ZIP drive - this is quite a bit faster. But that was through my parallel port and this is USB.
