1DSMkII buffer - memory card

I shoot raw with my 1DSMkII and on more than one occasion the shutter doesn't release because I seem to have overloaded the buffer.

This is surprising to me because this occurs after only 3-4 shots and I would have expected the buffer to provide more than that. I have been using a Hitachi 4GB microdrive and I wonder whether this is a write speed issue....

Anyone have any experience, suggestions, etc?

I got 10 frames ISO100 using Lexar 1GB 8x card on my 1DSMkII.

Yes that would be surprising. Could it be on those occasion the

shutter didn't release for some other reason like focus was not achieved. What makes you believe the buffer was full with only 3-4 taken?

ISO400 with a Lexar 4GB 80x I get 10 shots before the buffer is full

With a 4Gb Hitachi Microdrive I also get 10, however it is a LOT longer before I can re-commence shooting.

Are you set on RAW+large jpg perhaps?

No, I'm just shooting raw. The reason I thought it was a buffer issue was seeing the red memory card led flashing, and being able to shoot again when it went out.

I thought it might have been a focus issue, but I've tried it with manual focus just to see.

I'll do some more scientific tests and see what happens.

Before you start shooting what does the buffer counter say in the view finder (its at the bottom right side)?

Make sure your at ISO100 and all else is default except that you shoot in RAW.
