NEW Sony Camera Lineup in FEBRUARY -- 929 is COMING? Big news!

Very interesting. I can't wait to see what they have coming out, but their T series has let me down with all their "upgrades." All I see is cosmetic changes and I want more to change on it than just cosmetics...

I know the T series won't be upgraded again for another 3 months ;) so I guess I can wait just a bit longer :)

Sash, I love your photos and would be very curious to see what you could do with the 20D.

I never thought I would take the leap into DSLR, but I went ahead and got a 20D with 4 lenses and I have to say that I have not looked back. The 20D is an amazing piece of machinery and would not think twice about buying it again, however I feel the same way about the 828.

Check out this image...

thanks so much, and i can only say - likewise! although you've just shown here what you can do with the 20D. sweet, what a beautiful shot... and sharp as a tack to say the least! the exif doesn't indicate any software, is this unprocessed?? impressive either way :)

would be nice if exif identified the lens too, which did you use?

well, now you got me drooling, lol

thanks, chris... really appreciate the sample!

Looks like the hype is starting now, threads are increasing

if only we could nail the name of the next pro camera and I REALLY hope they make the move to four thirds, id be seriously happy with that, even with 8mp, what do I need more for.

No PP at all. Straight from the camera.

I used the Canon 50mm f/1.8. For $70, there is no lense that can match it.

Buy the 20D now - sony are not gonna release a competitor to that fine DSLR! I own the 828 and as soon as i have saved up enough money i'll be on the 20D like flies on a turd :) Ewwww! But true!

The 20D is just on a whole other level and is made by canon who makes the 1ds! Sony's best camera is a chewtoy compared to this! I think you will not regret it if you are serious about your work!

Its more of a work camera while sony 828 is a amateur-wanna-be-pro-camera! Just try shoting an image in raw mode and wait for 12 seconds while sony gets its act together! No way - 6 raw pics in a row with canon!

Sure the 828 got me along way - but i neeeed more powerrrr captain - but i just don't have the money! - But soon soon!!!

:)

Low noise at high iso ( a clean iso 400, 800 )
Fast, accurate auto focus, shot to shot times,
useable raw mode ( big buffer)
sharp, fast, low distortion 28 to 200 35mm equivalent lens,
6-7 mp sensor
accurate, bright, detailed evf, lcd, or slr finder.
excellent battery life

I think I may have to forget Sony...
Nikon or Canon Dslr for me

yeah, noise is definitely one of the key issues - they might as well ship the 828 with a copy of neatimage in the box. but one can't compare the two and i'm happy with the 828, it's still one great camera - imo the best in its class.

lmao... well, i'm a bit tight right now too and am too busy with work to enjoy a new camera. i haven't even had the chance to shoot much in the last 2 months, although the lousy weather played its part too. anyway, so i'm looking into getting a 20D by the end of february.

that's why sony has until then to convince me otherwise :) in a sense, i'm hoping sony pulls off some kind of technical miracle so i can spend $1000-1500 on a new sony rather than the same amount on a 20D, for which i'd need a bunch of new accessories, not to mention all that &@#$%! expensive glass, lol.

cheers, michael :)

sweet :) i've spent quite a bit of time lurking in the canon forums and have a list of glass put together. hardly affordable all at once, so i'll drive myself nuts deciding which one to start with when the time comes. probably the EF 17-40 F/4L USM as i've primarily been doing landscapes recently, followed by the 50mm F/1.8 and EF 70-200 F/4L USM... and hopefully then some serious tele for yellowstone this summer.

that's one sharp kitty. the kit should come with the lens and a free cat, lol

I would get a 20D in a moment if I wanted to take pictures of cats with only one eye and part of one ear in focus and the jaw and other ear OOF. Here we go again. Yipeeeeee!!!!

who said this was an example of composition or shallow dof?

Sash,

You have done your homework well. The 3 Canon lenses that you have choosen are imho the best value in terms of quality/price out of the Canon line up.

Good luck and you won't be dissapointed if you go the Canon route.

I would like to get the 17 - 40 f/4L, because I do a ton of landscape, but I also do weddings. Therefore I need a faster lense, the 16-35 f/2.8 is going to be my next lense purchase.

I have the 70-200 f/4L and have to say it is a VERY nice lense. I didn't want the 2.8L IS because it was much too heavy and I don't really use long lenses like that for weddings.

The 50mm is a great lense, as you saw of the picture of my cat. I feel that every photographer who gets a prime lense learns how to use their camera just a bit more because it will help with composition, though I hardly think you need any help.

BTW, I'll be in wyoming sometime this fall to take photos, hopefully we can take some together :)

yeah, and weddings are something i wouldn't feel comfortable doing with the 828 - without the use of an invasive flash during the ceremony.

thanks, but i need all the help i can get :) with regards to the prime, i agree and would think it forces the photographer to become more involved and engaged with the subject. i make too much use of zoom... get lazy at times, lol.

heck yeah, that'd be great :)
