does anyone have, or has anyone seen any black-coloured LCD protective covers for the D70 ? Does anyone know why Nikon decided to make the cover a semi-opaque colour instead of black ??

Oh boy, here we go....

Seriously, it is meant for protection as well as being able to see through it after taking a picture.

Trash that LCD cover and replace it with piece of plastic lamanate sheeting; the replacement price for a whole new LCD screen is $20.

I understand that it is for protection (as well as being able to see through it), however, is it just me or does it look out of place ?

I'm not looking to NOKIAfy the D70 with snoopy-patterned covers, I just thought that a black cover, with clear window to view LCD screen would have looked less obtrusive.

Just an opinion....

Ok, now I understand your questiona little better. I agree with your point. It does look out of place and like it is an afterthought. It probably has to to with the process to make it.

That being said, like the other poster I use the clear screen covers all the time and only use the LCD cover occasionallly.

I do find that the camera looks better with the LCD cover off.

Mine is in the box. I use the purplemoo screen protector. Just enter D70 in the FIND field.

Much clearer than the Nikon cover. The stock cover makes the camera look cheap. I got my Amex bill, and CHEAP it wasn't :-)

I didn't .like the white cover on the back of my D70 either so I took the cover and put a piece of clear packing tape over the inside of the clear portion of the cover. I trimmed it to size and then used black spray paint to paint the inside of the cover. Once the paint dried I removed the packing tape and viola... a black lcd cover. Looks great.

Where can I find information on a replacement LCD screen (not the snap-in cover)? How would it be replaced - I don't see any obvious removable bezel holding the LCD screen on.

Why on earth would you want a black cover, That kinka defeats the idea doesn't it?

Live like there is no tomorrow.

The cover is clear because of the injection molding process. Using that process the only way to get a black cover with clear screen is to make it in two parts (one black one clear), or do a secondary operation like masking/painting or if you want to be fancy, in-mold decoration. Any of those processes would significantly increase the part price and would either effect the retail price or nikon's margins.

what a simple but practical idea, I'll try your tips. I want to paint it gold / silver.

and would cost 10 times as much. get over it. if you cant, go buy a paint marker.

without reading the whole thread, you could if you so wish, put a piece of masking tape over the entire thing, use a craft knife, and score around the inner edge, then remove the outer, then use a little can of modling kit spray paint, (preferably black in your case) in a colour of choice, spray, wait, remove inner sectioin once dry, viola, hey presto, you have the finished article.

Just a thought

My cam may live another year maybe. HMM I lost all my lens caps rear covers ect. I just buy cheap after market film covers and blank caps with keeps. I have to admit it is one tough piece of teck. A cowboy rarely wears cowboy boots..
