Introduce yourselves....

Thanks Janice... Your photo is a lot more cooler... :-) You really are a Mac family, and it is a very well taken picture.

I like the Remote, although it likes a particular direction (aimed at the Infra Red sensor). Many times, especially for Macro shots when you are behind the camera, it is a pain to use it. But it is quite handy for most situations.

best wishes,
-Sanjay

Thanks, Sanjay. Our photo was really a group effort. I have a family of individuals (which is good), and it takes us a while sometimes to come to a meeting of the minds. It was a fun photo to put together.

I bought a pojo remote, but couldn't get it to work that night. I appreciate your assessment of the Nikon remote.

How wide can you be and still have it work? I mean, if I were taking a photo of a group (without being in the photo), standing to the side, would it trip the shutter?

Thanks,
Janice

Greetings 2005 & D70 Forum! It is fun to see who is behind all the
postings. I'll get it started. This is our family--obviously Mac
fans! I'm the Mom!

If possible, make it a 2005 photo--or at least December 2004!

Best wishes,
Janice

That's a hike isn't it? Have done a wedding in Ashburn. Nice area. Never did get to the Leesburg Outlet Mall--darn! Liked Winchester a lot when I drove out there a few years ago. There was a big hardware store there where my folks got an electric White Mountain Ice Cream freezer--that they took home on the plane with them! Nice place, nice folks there.

Best,
Janice
Hey--what part of Northern Virginia? We just moved from
Springfield, VA, to Utah. We lived in Northern VA for 15 years.
How long have you lived there? Go to DC and take some monument
photos for me--especially at night!!! I miss that already!

Janice

I presume you are all on Airport? Broadband or dialup? I cannot do the same pic (although I have three girls and the necessary wife) because I will not give up my desktop for the Powerbook. Happy New Year (belated). Thanks for sharing.

Hi Janice,

If you are taking a group photo, typically is not a problem. In fact, there is no problem if you facing the front of the camera. It is a pity we can't use this remote from the back. I remember some one here had created a crude 'reflector' type of device to be able to use the remote from behind the cameara - but I did try it. For Macro shots, I usually bring the remote to the side of the camera and then trip the shutter.

Short answer, you should be OK for group pics as long as you are in front or the side (preferably the side where the remote sensor is).

Thanks, Sanjay. I got an email from B&H that they have them back in stock, and ordered one today. I wonder what the person who made a crude 'reflector' type of device did to make it work from the rear of the camera. Do you remember?

Thanks again for your helpful replies.

Hi Patrick,

You are welcome! Yes, we are all on Airport--broadband via cable modem. I felt the same way about my desktop--until I got my Powerbook. I have a beautiful 20 cinema display, and it doesn't get used anymore because I am constantly on my laptop! (One of these days I'll get the connection needed to use the big screen with my laptop....) It is so nice to be able to take my PB with me where ever I go in the house/traveling, etc. Wouldn't trade it!

However, I must say I am looking longingly at the G5 dual processors....

I started doing digital with a 995. My favorite photo of all time was taken with that camera!

Thanks for responding.

Janice,

Glad you caught that remote while still in stock. It is a very handy device (compared to not having one). The remote comes with a slick case, that you can run your camera strap through, so it remains on camera when you need it.

Yes, the person who made that 'reflector' type device, intended to use the remote from the back of the camera. I did not try it, but you may want to search the forums to see if you stumble upon that thread. If you don't do much Macro, then you probably don't need to worry about this.

-Sanjay

Welcome to the D70 Forum! Thanks for taking the time to look at
the post/photo.

The photo was originally taken in color. I created a layer with
just the red sweater (selected only the sweater), and then
desaturated the background layer of all color. Then I merged the
two layers.

I am just learning how to do this, and it may not be the best way,
but it is the way I know how to do it. I hope that helps.

The D70 is a great camera, by the way. I highly recommend it!

Best,
Janice
Hi, Janice. I am Bob (Maple Leaf) from the Sony Talk Forum. I am
here because I am interested in the Nikon D70 and may make a
purchase in the next few days. I like this forum and the friendly
folks here. BTW, what process did you do to make your daughter's
sweater red in a B&W shot?
Thanks for allowing me into this forum.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm afraid I am an amateur and a newbie to this kind of processing. I wish there were a book to illustrate how to use all the gadgets (brushes, wands, etc) so folks like me could read up on these techniques and learn from the book instead of always enquiring from others in the forum. Any suggestions?
