FZ20 remote shutter (RS1) in Australia - help !

Would greatly appreciate some help here..

Any locals (or for that matter OS posters) know any good sites (or shops) where I can get the FZ20 Remote Shutter (DMW-RS1). My local camera shops just look at me vaguely (like are you mad !?) when I ask about them. The two sites I've found:

http://www.panasonic.com

doesn't ship outside the US or Europe.. and the other site:

http://www.computeruniverse.net/

Is a German site which will ship outside EU, however are asking EU 16 for the item and EU 33+ for the shipping (via snail mail !!) bring the total to $90 AUS for the lot.

There's gotta be an easier way ????

I haven't found anywhere that has the pana ones in OZ, but somebody mentioned you can get the lieca one here (which I gather works on the FZ20), I think that was about $90 too! do a search on the forum if your interested.

I'm toying with the idea of making my own, again if you search the forum you can find the schematic. if you can use a soldering iron and have the inclination you can make one simply for a couple of dollars.

Many thanks. I'm beginning to think I'm not Robinson Crusoe on this issue !! My next door neighbour has a Remote Shutter for a Canon SLR... surpisingly it looks very similar to the Panasonic one ... I'm tempted to try it out to see if it works, however I'm not sure if this will mess something up....

Let me know if the home made jobbie works ... if so I'd like the schematic.

I am still waiting for the UK arm of Panasonic to ship the remote, I get daily automated emails telling me it is on back-order.

Canon remote wont mess anything up but it wont work, the wiring is different the canon does not have the reuqired resistors and uses different parts of the connector.

Others have reported building it and said it works, I was going to build one but I find the 2 sec timer is much easier to use.

Using a cable release with camera on tripod makes it very easy to pull the whole thing over and smash the camera.

Many thanks, if they're bringing in a batch, I'll persist. Do you work for a Camera shop ? If so, I'm happy to throw some biz your way... even though I'm in Sin-city
