i don't understand your question: i'm interested in having an external hardrive backup of my photo collection (rather than burning multiple dvds)There is NO best. All the brands you list are good HD's. What will
you put them in to capture you images from your media?

Which is the most reliable portable hardrive backup unit?
I've read about the Western Digital Media Center, the Seagate and
Iomega
models...any suggestions?
thanks,

The big names are all just fine. I wouldn't use removable media. Stick with a good quality drive maker like Seagate or Western Digital. Pick a drive you are interested in the price point you want. Do a google on that particular drive and see if there are any known problems. For basic backup you don't need a super fast drive so you can get away without 8 meg caches and such. Buy a good drive and a reasonble enclosure. No big thing. It is, after all, backup. If a backup fails it's not a tragedy.Which is the most reliable portable hardrive backup unit?
