Should we nominate an MVP? My answer is "No!"

The other forum I frequent is the Nikon D70 forum, as do some other OTF members. Someone started a thread over there last month to nominate an MVP for 2004. I cast a vote (for David Chin), but on this forum I don't feel that we have any one individual who stands out. I'm afraid if I chose one person as the MVP I'd be leaving out one of the many others who contributes to this forum. We have many valuable participants.

It's difficult not to mention any names, but I think that's best, given my faulty memory. If anyone else would like to mention someone by name I think we'd end up with quite a list, and probably not leave anyone out.

Anyone you'd like to mention?

OKAY, OKAY, I'll mention one name - the guy who provides the sites for some of the common galleries, who takes the time to upload the images we send him, and who helps out with the challenge hosts.

Of course, I'm referring to Bill Huber. Thanks Bill, we appreciate all you do on behalf of the OTF members.

I do agree. I just said I might not.

A bid Thanks to Bill Huber from me for his great help to me both on and off the forum.

I really enjoy! ;-)

Pointless because, of course, the MVP is a slam dunk!

Thanks, Bill! (& I'm sorry you had such a bad time with Kobe last year. Oh, wait....)

Stan

ps: I really appreciate everybody on the OTF team!

Jack never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anyones image. He was always very positive and helped anyone he could.

Jim, I do thank you, but you have to remember its fun and I enjoy doing it or I wouldn't do it. I just wish I had more time to be on the forum lately. I just can't find the time to get everything I need to get done and play at the same time.

These things invariably end up in an ugly backlash against the person who is voted MVP, regardless of how truly helpful/nice/valuable they have been. (Ask Juli Valley).

So in order to not cause him any duress, grief, or harm, my vote for Bill will go uncast. ;-)

. . . it's sort of an odd coincidence that you should mention Juli Valley. If memory serves me correctly (which it rarely does anymore) she was the very first person to respond to my first post. The reason that's a coincidence is because you were the first person to respond to the first image I posted.

I wasn't aware of any backlash, or I would have mentioned that when I started this thread. This forum seems far more civil than most. I hope it doesn't happen here, but thanks for mentioning it.

BTW, where does Juli hang out nowadays?

Here's the "original" nomination thread:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1008&message=1868330

Jui was one of the first of the regular Oly Talk folk from here to make the jump to DSLR. A 10D I think it was, or maybe even a D60. Based on her sig, it's now a 20D, and she's hanging out in Canon EOS 20D/10D/D60/D30 land.

Yes, it's generally pretty civil around here, though we're not without our own occasional "turf battles" -- usually with the arrival of a new model. Nothing to match "the great Uzi vs C700 wars" of 2001/2002.

I think everyone who participates here is a MVP! From the occasional poster, first timer with a question, to the regulars and pros who add so much to the knowledge base and enjoyment of photography, each is a valued member.

While it is tempting to single out those who do so much to help others and share their expertise and photographs, it might be counter-productive to the good will of the forum as has been pointed out.

Jack epitomized the best this site has to offer and there's not a day goes by that I don't think of him.

So, let's just give each other a pat on the back and good wishes for a great 2005 here at OTF.

Best regards to all,

****:)

La Daniellionic Era....
LOL....

To bring the whole thing full circle -- did you see a while back where she was nominated as the 300D forum MVP? Much agreement, disagreement, and flamage ensued.

Now, for the final word on those forum wars, I wonder how many from that era are still shooting with their C-700s vs still shooting with an Uzi? ;-)

OK, I'll bite - just what the heck IS an MVP anyway?
I'm guessing "Most Valued Person"?

Whatever - I think RichardR said it right.

Cheers,
Dave.

when I first came to OlyTalk, Daniella was here...Juli V. too...and ya gotta admit, Ms. D. does some of the best C-700 (especially, nite pics) work around these parts...heheh

As for the C-700 and UZI, I've used them on an equal opportunity basis for the past couple years...but, that's mainly due to the 700 being my 'traveling companion' (bike rides, particularly). The UZI gets alot more respect--it only travels in places that I feel it would not be 'in harms way'. I can easily replace the 700...not so, IMO, re: the UZI. And, I must also add, I much prefer shooting with the UZI...it hardly ever reacts badly to my shaky ol' mitts...heheh...whereas, the 700...well, I think you know what I mean.

I actually had the very same thought but chose to just go for the quick Daniellionic Era laugh.... I'll forego any further rehashing of the futile c2100 vs c7?? comparisons....
